Correction: "Awit ng Proletaryo" is actually called the "Hymn of the Proletariat"/"Anthem of the Proletariat" because the Tagalog word for song is kinanta/kanta and the Tagalog wotd for hymn/anthem is awit/pambansang kinantahay

nope. kanta is a spanish loan word, therefore it cannot soly mean 'song'. this implies that there were no songs in the philippines before the spanish came. besides - hymn and song are interchange, moreso in filipino as there are multiple instances of different words (by english definition) being interchangable

Amazing song, sad that it has its communist/socialist undertones but nevertheless it encapsulates Filipino spirit of relentlessness and pursuit of freedom in the face of colonialism or during our troubles in the 80s, essentially timeless but it’s the voice of our nation put into this song
