The name Saoirse (Seer-she) is an old Irish name meaning "freedom". Fits considering she became a popuar name choice for girls in the 1920's. Where as her mother's name Bronagh means "sad, sorrowful" signifies her tragic awakening into a full fledged selkie and having to part from her family.

+zachanikwano When I was a boy I once read a story ... it was as if through a glass door that is long ago, before glass was ever made. ... I opened it and on the other side was a vast beach lots of palm trees and the bluest and most majestic sea ever... I heard a golden voice, it spoke my name ... and said, "I love you..." I put this world behind me and went into the other place... suddenly fell and was on the beach... "Where are you" I said. ... again the most melodic whisper, yet so clear in my thoughts "I love you" ... a short moment later a came upon, and saw her... __ It was a Selkie, she was so beautiful. The many colors of here thoughts and she was able rise out of my dreams of youth "9" and feeling love, as it is strong and lasting... impression'ed into are classroom fascination with the sudden knowledge that someone is beautiful. __ She appeared when I was in 5th grade. I had seen her once before when I was 5. She was in the waters then... thoughts... think of the air as liquid. Yet its currents are really the weather that we see forecast on the news. __ She smiled at me and I saw an angel and I knew I came from this ocean also. Before I was solid stone... as we must look to them that are able to be anywhere anytime and anybody can be ... only what they want them to see... __ Anyways, I am an old man now that has turned to blackstone and was moved so much at a moment... I remembered her... and I crumbled... just a brief second... as the suffering crashes its waves with power... and I shed a tear... of real waters... It is actually of the soul. __ It weeps inside for the inability to leave with her. The story has a sad ending... I will not be able to tell it now. "I have no time." __ Maybe I'll tell you it if you befriend this emotion and follow its trail. It is sadness ... but it has happiness also. ** You can never lose something wonderful once you attain it. As you must only have a vivid mind and you can get there again. ** The problem is people are not strong enough to reach it. That is why the go to visit loved ones that have passed. __ Putting flowers on their stones of record "Here lies jane & john doe" they only can pray for release... but they cannot go, sometimes for many years... to be with them 4 they must remain lied to. As we all are. __ We are the ones that are dead. We are as the walkways and cemented freeways... it is the real ones that flow around and traverse above and below within and without.... Why do people have to shit on Big Hero Six so much? You can’t compare this movie and that one. This story is a beautiful look into Irish folklore and wonderfully done 2D animation. Big Hero Six was a fantastic and accurate look into the processing of grief and did a lovely job of making clear that mental health is just as important as physical health, and the 3D animation was incredibly done. BOTH movies are stupendous and deserve recognition-and yes, it sucks that this one didn’t, but that doesn’t mean we get to treat Big Hero Six like it was garbage when it wasn’t.

I am of Irish descent, and all of my life, I have always believed I was a mermaid. I have a deep, heart connection to the ocean, and am trying hard to do my part to protect it. I also believe in Selkies and Sirens. After seeing this, I decided to become a Selkie. Saiorse is a lot like me, quiet, independent, brave, and I can relate to her. It's like me! Whenever I go into the ocean, or even just the pool, i instantly transform from human to Mermaid, Selkie, or even a dolphin. Such a beautiful, calming scene.

1.Disney always destroys the other animated films at the academy awards. 2.Some people have no taste in actual good movies. 3.This beautiful film(Along with the secret of kells) is underrated. Disney isn't. Conclusion: Disney wants to stay on top.
@WouldntWeather8 жыл бұрын
+NeonKazma1 I doubt the Academy even really cares about Disney, they only vote for it because it's a big and well known name, but in reality they don't bother to watch ANY of the nominated animated movies, not even the Disney movies despite literally being payed to watch it and choose the best one. The Academy Awards are a joke, and there are so many other award shows that give animation the credit it deserves, like the Emmys.

I have a question. So, the father had a selkie wife. He locks the coat into a chest to prevent Saoirse from running away into the sea so evidently he's aware that Saoirse is a selkie. Earlier in the movie Ben asks why she can't talk and he kind of vapidly responds that "the doctors said she will in her own time". Bronaugh is always seen with her coat on in flashbacks and the old man spirits say that selkies have no voice without their coats. Is he aware that Saoirse can't speak without the coat or not? Did he figure there was a trade-off between keeping his kid and taking her voice away? I thought that there would be some sort of plot thread about this but the movie kind of sets it up and forgets about it
@imthecoolestguyalive4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm very late! And also I am in no way a professional, but here's my take. Saoirse's voice, I believe, required her to be in her coat in order to develop properly. Perhaps the coat was only necessary at first, and later on speaking would come naturally without it. Or! Saoirse only didn't speak, because she saw how much pain it caused her only family, her being a spitting image of Bronagh, and all. So when she spoke, that was her embracing who she is, and her Mother being gone, and her family being kinda broken and messy, but still her family. Also, she spoke numerous words without her coat at the veeeeeery end, when calling for her Brother and Father.

I saw people saying why big hero 6 but not this. I don't want to compare walt disney to cartoon saloon. It's all about each person's taste. When I first saw 3d animation like Finding Nemo, I was so crazy about 3D animated films. I watched every single one of them from disney or pixar or dreamwork. Then I grew older. I studied more about art and design. My taste therefore changed over time. I feel that hand drawn animation is much more artistic than 3D animation. I also find stop animation also more artistic. Nowadays I don't rush to see a 3D animated film when it comes out anymore. This cartoon, Song of the Sea, is a masterpiece visually. I like the story also. But the drawing in this film is so magical.
