I was Burt Bacharach's keyboardist and Music Director for many years... one of the most fun performances we ever did of "What's New, Pussycat?" was with Mike Meyers on the "One Amazing Night" TV special... a very special reading of the song by Mike, complete with a breakaway tuxedo and dance routine with-you guessed it-pussycat dancing girls. It never ceases to be a magically bizarre song!

Tom's rendition of Green, Green Grass of Home can still bring tears to my eyes, even after all these years. What a performer is was and still is. Loved his duet with Janis Joplin back in '69 which I only discovered a couple of years ago. His vocals are unmatched and ladies do I dare say it... he looked amazing in his all black leather outfits.🥰🤩🥰

I just turned 57 on Dec 15. Tom Jones is my first, and all-time, favorite. His show on tv is the first thing I can remember watching. His live at the Flamingo is the first album I ever owned, and I STILL HAVE IT TO THIS DAY. Along with three cleaner copies, as I ruined my original in youth. Best singer ever. Cornell and Rodgers are best rock vocalists, but Sir Tom is just INCREDIBLE.... to this day even. Thank you for covering this incredible talent!!!!

As a young kid I first learned to appreciate Tom Jones because of his television show "This Is Tom Jones" (1969-71), and since the mid-70s my music library (records, cassettes, CDs...) has always included Tom Jones. Sir Tom definitely has one of the most iconic voices and still exudes so much charm, soul, and sex-appeal while still being a true gentleman and fantastic story teller. He is a living legend. He is definitely on my top ten list of greatest male vocalists of all time. I still have many of Sir Tom's hits in my playlist and any and every time I hear that incredible guitar intro to She's a Lady I have to stop, crank it up, and dance! I saw Tom Jones sing in NH in 1981. My chorus teacher had a deal with a small local nursing home. She would drag us over to sing songs throughout the school year, they would invite us to their small concerts. He came, played 2 songs, ‘She’s a Lady,’ and ‘It’s so Unusual’ and he left. It was like watching old Elvis struggling to sing old songs. Tom had his shirt unbuttoned to his belt buckle, over dyed big hair, teenage girl me was grossed out. My choral teacher almost fainted with lust.

Saw Tom at the magnificent, out door, Piece Hall venue in Halifax, England last July. Stood unsupported for 3 hours, belting out his hits like it was still the 1960s. Fantastic!

I was around 6 or 7 when "What's New Pussycat" came out. My parents actually took me to see the movie (and it was pretty funny). Back then, a LOT more novelty songs appeared on the radio than now. We had just transitioned from "Camelot" to The British Invasion, and Tom was part of that. What amazes me most about Sir Tom is that he still sounds exactly the same as he did 50 years ago. I was watching old Ed Sullivan performances he did back to back with shots of him doing his nightclub act more recently. He doesn't gyrate the way he used to (sigh...okay, he's in his 80s), but when you close your eyes, that sexy voice is still very much there.

Tom Jones will always remind me of my Aunt Mary (may she rest in peace). Aunt Mary was a member of the Tom Jones fan club and went to see him whenever he was in Atlantic City or the NYC area. Her prize possession was a framed picture of herself with Tom that she kept with the family pictures in the living room. She took her nieces (5 of us) to see him in Long Island in the mid-70s - I think it was the Westbury Music Fair. I honestly don't remember much of the show, but I remember it was fun!

Crazy but true: I first heard "It's Not Unusual" as covered by The London Philharmonic Orchestra on an album titled MUSIC FOR BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. I then heard the original when I got hooked on Philly's WPEN-AM rock & roll oldies station. What an education that station was for those 4 years. The first time I saw the film WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT on TV in the 70s, I thought it was one of the stupidest things I'd ever seen. But then, 20 years later, I saw it uncut on AMC (I think), and was very surprised when it started to grow on me. Earlier this year, it became the very 1st Woody Allen movie I have on BLU-RAY. I think that says something. When I first heard "Fritz Fassbender" was written for Groucho Marx... the completely-insane character suddenly MADE SENSE to me for the first time. I could so easily picture in my head that RIDICULOUS dialogue and behavior coming from him. But to this day, nothing about Peter Sellers' performance in that film makes any sense at all. He seems like a joke within a joke. Crazy enough, there was a character in a late-70s Tom Baker-Lalla Ward DOCTOR WHO story, "Nightmare On Eden", who went thru the entire story channelling Seller's "Fritz Fassbender". Go check it out, I'm not making it up! Tom Jones' "Thunderball" was the perfect fit for the opening credits of that film-- it's the VILLAIN's song. The hero's song-- Dionne Warwick's "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (which was cut from the film) really belonged over the END CREDITS. Except, end credits weren't that long in those days. My other fave of his is "Delilah", another one I first heard from the London Philharmonic. The instrumentation on that sounds like it's from a BIBLICAL EPIC. But it's really a tragic song about a cheating woman who drives the man who loves her to murder.

Who does’t love Tom Jones? We had a Tom Jones impersonator at our restaurant who was excellent…He even played in Vegas. When the Grammys “Were actually cool”…so true. Great vid, Prof thanks. My mother and aunt went to see him back in the early seventies. They were in the front row, and my aunt ended up with a sweaty handkerchief from him. I believe she still has it to this day.

Was lucky enough to see Tom Jones in concert this summer, and was stunned by his vocals at the age of 84. He doesn’t sound good for his age, he sounds amazing for any age. If any of you have the chance to see him, take it. Just an amazing performer. Side note, listen to John Mulaney’s bit on the Salt and Pepper Diner. Tom Jones is featured heavily in it.

Tom Jones's performances filled my childhood, he was the king of tight pants and hair perms, what a voice and his performer. Every song Tom charted with he owned so much no one could ever record it better. Tom, what can one say about him? One of my favorite duets is when Van Morrison and he played sang together on "I'm not Feeling It Anymore." It's an unforgettable video in that, in addition the pipes and verve of Tom, Van smiles entirely in this collaboration and never displays a usual snarl. More Tom, Professor!

@FaeryMoon555 Born in 62 I have childhood memories of summer camping trips that all seem too similar with the one before and after to recall the year except for the songs. From around 1967 to 1988 I've been associating the activities I was involved in with the music we were hearing on the radio. For example in the year I got married I recall a couple of songs, Simply Irresistible and I Hate Myself for Loving You were released so I just need to look up either song's release date, 1988, to calculate which wedding anniversary is about to arrive, On August the 6th CAY [(Current Anniversary Year 2025) + 12] = 37th wedding anniversary on August the 6th of 2025.

As a young'n I would find myself... laying on my back in my Florida yard .. starring at the sky be it day or nite.. of course... dreaming of the "ideal life" Hubby, a couple/few kids... eventually celebrating 25 years, then 40 years, etc. I guess, somethings are just not meant to happen. Also, i have noticed... that in this terribly short willed people filled, cancel culture... there justice isn't much of anything that lasts super long anymore. Look at The 50-60 yrs together Mamaw & Papaws/Papa & Nanas/ Grandma & Grandpas... Then there is the next Gen's.... Iam not going to elaborate. Iam pretty sure you get the picture. By the way... I can speak on this.. whereas Iam a divorcee.

I had a dear friend who survived some really harrowing experiences in Vietnam He told Me that the first time he stepped off the plane at the Vietnam airbase, “What’s New Pussycat” was playing on the loudspeaker Imagine that …would be a great scene in a movie!
