This was Titanic's last song played by the band when final plunge started, the last survivors who left the ship heard that the band stopped playing when the 1st funnel fell (survivors from collapsible boat A and survivors who were trying to climb over flipped collapsible boat B heard it, one of them was Harold Bride, wireless operator) on my opinion the band stopped and might had ran to the stern after the funnel collapsed.

@@Fegelantic Nope, that song was Nearer my God to thee, british version. Since the americans weren't accustomed to the piece, they mistakenly recognized it as the Songe d'Automne

@@MattiavonSigmund Tell that to Harold Bride. One of the last to leave the ship, not to mention he had trained ears as a radio operator. There's been a long discussion among Titanic nerds that dug up quite a bit of evidence showing that "NMGTT" was a bit of a trope in that era in regards to tragedies. You'll find headlines of it being played as a church organist randomly croaked, on a phonograph in a home after a murder, other shipwrecks, etc. TL;DR it's bullshit. The band was trying to keep spirits up, not encourage panic with a "we're all going to die" song

@@Fegelantic true, but it couldve been a 1997 scenario, band disbanding, one member startes playing NMGTT and they all join in. then after NNMGTT is done at around 2:05, songe d'automn is played as the bands final stand. unfortunatly, we will never know, as the band is resting peicfully, eternaly playing for the so many unlucky victims of the disaster, in a ship way grander than titanic, up in heaven or where ever you think the best of society goes, but where ever it is, the band, murdoch, phillips, smith, and all other lost crew members are there, infinetly sailing on the sea of time.

You can just go for White Star Line songbook - Songe D'Automne (Titanic orchestra). It may not sound right at first but it killed me to hear it over and over. It's depressing and just perfect.
