Thanks for your excellent review. I was on the fence about it because like you I thought the website seemed dated and all the testimonials are undated! I used to have access to it about 20 years ago through a publisher and as a result of your review I'll try it again.

Worth another shot IMO Mark. Hope you get some songs cut from it.

Hi Sam and thanks for the great review! On their website FAQ it states: "It's essential to provide 2 good commercial songs that you can easily imagine other artists recording, with demos recorded to a high standard. In fact with today's technology, demos are often used as the basis of the finished master, so top-end writers are actually writing records rather than just songs. There's no excuse these days for sub-standard or average-sounding recordings, the market is looking for dynamic, clever and outstanding songs." May I ask how produced were the songs that you initially submitted and the ones you continue to submit? Do you hire additional musicians to make polished submissions?
@Song101uk4 жыл бұрын
Hey Steve, good question! The demos I sent were fairly well produced. To the untrained ear they probably sound like release ready songs, but in some cases you can tell that some of the instruments are VSTs. I only tend to hire out other vocalists, as most instruments can be reproduced virtually to a pretty convincing standard. If I hired other musicians for each instrument it would get expensive very quickly! Hope that helps, best of luck! 👍

Very helpful! Thank you!

Do they have to be good quality, full recordings? Like would an acoustic version be ok?

Thx for the great review of SongLink! Do you have a review of Taxi? How would you rate/compare/contrast the difference between a subscription to SongLink vs. Taxi?
@sam-dawson-music4 жыл бұрын
Songlink is better in my opinion. There are less opportunities, but you don't have to pay per submission. I've also had numerous tracks not forwarded by Taxi's screening service due to the track not being 'fully produced'... Even when the brief said it allowed basic demos! Infuriating to say the least 😤

Thank you for this great post! Do they also tell you if you haven't been accepted? I sent 2 songs in about 10 days ago which have been listened to on Spotify and don't know if I should chase it up or just subscribe anyway? How long do they take to get back to people?Thank you.

I don't remember exactly how long they took to respond when first signing up, but I would say 10 days is enough to warrant a chase up email 👍

Hey Sam! Thanks for taking the time to make this video. So in one year, did the revenue from your two placements exceed the total in membership fees? Just curious
@Song101uk Жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes it did. Thought it certainly wasn't an amount you could retire on 😅 If I remember correctly, the placements had a recoupable advance. That basically meant I received an upfront fee, but my share of the royalties from the publisher was withheld until that lump sum had been recouped by the publisher. It's generally a good deal for the songwriter, because even if the song is not a success, they still get paid 👍

Can you tell are most of the ads for songs still saying that they will only accept songs from published writers and not from unpublished writers? This used to be the case when I last looked at it about 8-10 years ago.
@Song101uk4 жыл бұрын
No, most of the ads accept songs from unpublished writers. However, prior to signing up to SongLink, they ask you to submit a few songs to keep their standards fairly high.
