Nice follow-up to the last video. Ringo has done very well in collaborations with the three as well as with other artists along the way. A lot of help from his friends.

I like all the McCartney contributions. I think Paul had the best sense on what would work well for Ringo. Loved "Six O'Clock" "Pure Gold" and I thought "Attention" was good too.

Nice idea for a video John. It's funny you mention John and Paul singing harmony on Yellow Submarine, as the voice I always hear coming out strongest on that track is George's, particularly on the fade-out. God can you imagine Ringo singing Eleanor Rigby? Shocking. I always wondered if Ringo had properly written Octopus' Garden on his own, as the chord sequence is quite sophisticated. Having now seen that scene in Let It Be, I'd say it was definitely at last party a Harrisong. I think Photograph is probably the greatest ever Beatles song that could have been. Cheers, James

The 74 album by Mike McGear will be released again with bonus tracks in a couple of months. Lots of songs there that Paul wrote and played on.

Now we've seen get back I'd definitely questioning how much of Ringo's music is actually written by him, George completely reworks Octopus's Garden and the only thing left that Ringo cotnributed is the lyric "I'd like to be under (neath) the sea in an Octopus's Garden in the Shade, we would be (changed lyric) in an Octopus's garden in the shade, I'd ask my friends to come and see an Octopus's Garden with me, Plus all it had was the meandering piano that would have put it on the same level as don't pass me by (not that don't pass me by is a bad song by any means) but Octopus's Garden is practically a George track so I wonder how much of Ringo's stuff creditted to him is truly his

You may as well put It Don't Come Easy on the list . Ringo himself said that when George gave it to him it had all those "hare krishnas in it." The list could have been doubled if fate hadn't intervened. The original plan was for John, Paul & George to contribute 4 songs each to what would end up being Stop and Smell the Roses. The album was going to be titled My Three Brothers but fate intervened and that became Ringo's dedication on the back cover instead. I read an interview with Tom Petty who said that he had been so excited because The Heartbreakers had booked studio time in LA the same time Lennon was to be there to work on Ringo's album. Who knows what could have happened with all four together?

Wow that's amazing. I never knew it was going to be called My 3 Brothers, how did you know this? I think Jimmy Iomine mentioned Lennon session, and stevie Nicks sang about it in...edge of seventeen..?

I checked out the track Wrack My Brain after you mentioned it. The track is the sort of track I can imagine George putting on in the middle if side two of an album. It's okay and would probably be strengthened with a couple of strong tracks either side. What I found most disturbing was the "porn star" look of Ringo at the time with that mustache, that hair and that leather jacket!

I've never truly rated Ringo Starr as a commercial artist, generally speaking because most of his tracks that I find relevant to my own listening habits tend to have been written for him by talented songwriters including obviously John Lennon and George Harrison. For one reason or another, I've never identified with any of the songs that Paul McCartney wrote for Ringo, perhaps because McCartney was more withholding than his former band mates in terms of the music that he would donate to Ringo. "It Don't Come Easy", "I'm The Greatest" "Photograph" and "Goodnight Vienna" are all top shelf material and even though it's not a John Lennon original, Lennon's arrangement of the standard "Only You" that Ringo does an appreciable job on is also top drawer in my opinion. "Cookin' (In The Kitchen Of Love)" is slightly below the par of the field that I just referenced but it could also be argued that it's underrated as it's clearly a song that was shoehorned for Ringo's needs so to speak. Unfortunately, "Nobody Told Me" would've easily been the standout of the field if Ringo had recorded it for "Stop And Smell The Roses" which otherwise has a paucity of tunes that could measure up to that particular Lennon composition. As far as other collaborations are concerned, there have been rumors throughout the years that when The Beatles worked on Lennon's "Give Me Some Truth" during the "Let It Be" sessions, that it was Paul McCartney who conceived the song's middle-eight at least in terms of melody, certainly not lyrically but nonetheless a contribution.

Nice video Mr Heaton. Love the recognition for "Pure Gold" which is a really nice song. Would love to have heard Paul do a version. I have to admit I've always like "Wrack My Brain". Reminds me a bit of "This Song", "Crackerbox Palace" period for George. However, I just never cared for "Nobody Told Me" . Very awkward lyrics on the refrain or chorus where he sings "nobody told me there'd be days like these" Just a mouthful. Also, Paul supposedly was going to give Ringo "Let em In" but never did which could have been included.
