Thank you for putting this on the internet! I did a search for Primative Baptist singing to play my grandma on her deathbed and I found this. It's just what I was looking for!!!! She has been a member of the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist church in Purcell Oklahoma since she was a child in the 1930's. Thank you again so much!

Thank you for posting this. I grew up modern Baptist (independent). After learning my ancestors were PB in Illinois I wanted to learn more about them. Unfortunately the closest PB church is over 2000 miles away but GOD IS GOOD and provided me with and old friend that also appreciates the teaching of the old Baptist. Blessings

Where do you live where a primitve baptist church is 2000 miles away?, and yes just looking at your last name I can tell you do have ancestors who are primitive baptist in Illinois. Look up the Primitive Baptist Library of Carthage, IL

@stephen Webb Hello! If you'd like to speak to some of your cousins here in Illinois, feel free to reach out to me at any time! I'd love to talk. As Brother Sam already commented, several of the branches of the family are still here! Hope to hear from you.

@@samcurtis8930 sorry for the delay responding to your comment. I live in Hawaii on the island of Maui. No PBs here but my friend holds to most of the doctrines of the Primitive Baptist so we have good fellowship and get into interesting discussions with our free will friends. I hope to travel to Illinois soon to meet my cousin Robert who manages the PB library in Carthage. Aloha Stephen

I would like to attend a Primitive Baptist Church. I live in San Francisco, and I been told that the church at Oakland will be merging with the one in Fremont.

Greetings, im not primitive but im a missionary baptist but liked the congregational singing youhave. in my country Philippines i dont know any primitive baptist especially here in Tacloban city but i hope you an start mission here
@hardhatjack22074 ай бұрын
There has been an ongoing work in the Philippines for quite some time. I’ll have to find out where exactly they are to point you in the right direction. The important thing is believing in the finished work of Christ. Perhaps one of our elders over there can start another church near you

I grew up singing hymns with my grandmother. I remember meals in the basement. Then going to the graveyard and praying.

When did Primitive Baptists start singing like this? Sounds like any other church choir only without the musical accompaniment. Must be that the Primitive Baptists started printing music to go with their hymns like all the rest of the churches; that must be why you can still buy old Primitive Baptist song-books, without music, just the words. Kind of a shame, seems to me. I see Lowell Mason has even wormed his way into the Baptist Church. See the preacher leading them like he's leading a fancy European chorale

They are reading shaped notes.
@waderewadedto39626 жыл бұрын
They're singing shaped notes. shaped notes have alto, tenor, soprano, and bass notes, just like sacred harp music does. This is probably not just one congregation, but a gathering of two or three congregations from the same area or nearby areas.

@@waderewadedto3962 we actually had people from all over the country there! It's amazing how people will come together for some good old fashioned PB singing.
