"Dance Macabre" is such an amazing song. Actually, Ghost is such an amazing band. Such a breath of fresh air in modern rock/metal. I swear they could easily become the biggest band in the world during the 2020s if they keep up their level of quality and keep delivering those heavy rock anthems with those incredible melodic hooks.

The Hell Song by Sum 41, Brick By Boring Brick By Paramore, In The Night By The Weeknd, Closing Time By Semisonic (as well as Most late 90s power pop hits) and a good chunk of Future Hearts By All Time Low, I legitimately thought that Kids In The Dark was just an upbeat pop rock jam about teenage rebellion in the vein of The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls with its infectious, sing along chorus and I had no idea that “beautiful scars on critical veins” was a reference to cutting until someone in the comment section pointed it out

I really love Mr. Tillman. Amazing lyrics and incredibly catchy. The first track that comes to mind is “Big Freeze” by Muse. @brandon roberts I didnt say that either? I just said that song is a happy sounding pop type song with dark lyrics?
@MeatEatingVegan7774 жыл бұрын
I'd say that a lot of Linkin Park's pop songs were pretty damn sad. Actually, their first two albums had alot of sad, angry, angsty songs. I can't think of a happy song they had. Though, I'm a fan of their first two albums and plan on buying their last album soon, just to support them. So, I don't know all of their songs. Im not a massive fan of them, but I felt connected to Chester Bennington and how he sang about his pain and struggles. The lyrics of their last album were very sad. Heavy is sad, Shadow of the day is sad, One more light is sad. This was Chester's last album, so I honestly don't expect any of it to be happy or hopeful. The guy was probably at his end by his last album and I can only imagine how much pain he had. From upset fans that hated the fact they were no longer nu-metal, (there's a video where the band makes a "nu-metal" version of Heavy as a joke, Chester pretty much says in an annoyed, pissy way at the end, "There's your nu-metal version, so shut the fuck up!" I honestly think he was fed up with everything at this point, and fans jumping his ass didn't help. Also, Chris Cornell's death, an extremely close friend of his, definitely added to his pain. He preformed "One more light" in tribute to Chris Cornell. Then, Chris Cornell's daughter preformed "One more light" as a tribute to Chester Bennington when he passed, not too long after. Though, the sound of the songs "Heavy," and "Shadow of the day" might be seen as lighter sounding and could possibly be interpreted as "happier" songs to those not listening to the lyrics.

So i've been revisiting Alanis Morissette's discography after listening to her new tracks and well if you've never listen to "Hands Clean" check it out. It sounds so happy and catchy until you uncover that it's allegedly about an affair between her and a married man when she was 14. The creepy predatory things that were supposedly said to her makes me kind of sad for her the more i replay it.
@frances99754 жыл бұрын
The song “I love you, will you marry me” by Yungblud is such an upbeat song and like a standard love song but the story about it is quite unfortunate. It is the true story of a young women, Clare Middleton, that died of cancer at age 30. How her boyfriend, Jason, painted his proposal on a bridge for her and despite her elation, they never married due to her (alleged) fear of losing her children. It is about the gentrification of Sheffield that exploits the poor whilst capitalizing on their pain.

David Bowie's 2013 song 'Valentine's Day' fits very well, the upbeat guitar, and overall, the holiday in question brings up ideas of cheesy romance, not so much a school shooter, but that's exactly what the song is about. When Bowie settled down for good in New York in the 90s, he didn't know the tragedies that he was to witness, such as the Columbine shooting. With more school shootings occuring throughout the new decade, including one that happened on Valentine's Day in 2008, Bowie found himself feeling defenceless. He never chose to be outward political in his songs and preferred using metaphors and symbolism rather than telling people what to believe, which I admire him for, Valentine's Day is surprisingly one of his rather straightforward takes, as the lives of students is beyond politics. 'Valentine told me who's to go, feelings he's treasured most of all the teachers and the football stars' - especially now with the internet, these twisted kids find common ground in expressing their hatred for certain demographics, 'the teachers and the football stars' 'it's in his tiny face, it's in his scrawny hand' - he''s literally just a kid, and it's scary how such a young mind can be so fucked up. 'he's got something to say, it's Valentine's Day' - again, alluding to the aforementioned 2008 shooting on febuary 14th, as well as a way of saying that the kid is making the day his day of infamy. 'Valetine told me how he feels, if all the world were under his heels' - power is what the school shooter wants. He felt demasculated by the jocks and the oppressive teachers, and wants to reclaim his 'dignity' by enforcing his power over them. A jump from verse one where he projects himself as a victim. 'it's in his icy heart, it's happening today' - this is just brutal honesty. these kids are gone. and history keeps repeating itself unfortunately with more and more shootings occuring.

SKYND- Tyler Hadley. I dont know if this counts as a "happy" song but it's an upbeat and danceable banger... which is all the more dark, and kind of the point.
