Epic, Epic, EPIC 🔥🤯🤘in July 2015 I was visiting friends in Finland and they said they were taking me to a metal concert. Little did I know. My first time hearing and seeing the almighty Nightwish. By the end of this concert I was an emotional wreck and was actually crying while trying to sing We Were Here. The roar from the crowd at the end was deafening, the whole thing was, “The Greatest Show on Earth” that I have ever seen. Thanks for your reaction it was awesome ❤️🇬🇧 Now bring on Wembley in two months time 🤗

As a 61 year old bloke, Why? God is in control. He initiated, powered, designed and guided all of creation through the power of his word. He remains in control and cannot be deterred no matter what humankind tries to do to change or destroy what God has brought into being. Even denying God's existence is nothing but foolishness. His majesty is evident throughout the universe from the vast and numerous galaxies to the unbelievably detailed and intricate cells in a human's body.

Hi @Songs and Thongs - since you two love to freak out over Tuomas' compositional skills (as do we all) - here's one for you. I didn't see it in the other comments, so if this is a dupe I'm sorry. The opening piano/keyboard progression is so tranquil and beautiful, but it seems there's hidden meaning there! It starts with a single note, then progresses to six notes and the sixth is held in order to begin the sequence again. So it's 1...1,2,3,4,5,6 (hold 6 to act as 1 again), repeat etc. The atomic number of hydrogen is 1, and the atomic number of carbon is 6. Stars are the furnaces that ultimately produce all of the heavier elements. The lyrics actually then say "from the stellar nursery into a carbon feast". WHO WRITES LIKE THAT?!?!?!? Tuomas apparently. 🤯

Few fun facts : - Fireworks crew used in ears. They tested that everything worked the night before - Nightwish had 6 trucks full of gear for that night (You can see trailers behind fireworks launch station) - Nightwish had a crew of 50 for that night - There were about 50 construction workers doing everything from covering the Track & Field to stalls and fences (I was one) - Construction started on Monday before concert. Deconstruct was over on next Tuesday - Actual stage is owned by city of Tampere and is used in big concerts and festivals

@@lonewolfpoetics The tip ChristianSander1969 gave you is pretty good. You have to know that Floor Jansen (the singer in the song you've just watched) is their 3rd singer. With his permission, I'll just copy/paste the comment that Gabriel Bardac always gives people who react to Nightwish for the first time, so you'll know a bit more about their history. There are also song suggestions in his message, so you can get to know them better. I hope it helps. Take care 🤘🏻 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I [Gabriel Bardac] am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live." Hoping you'll continue this journey, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and not as something mandatory): "Ghost Love Score" live at Wacken 2013 (epic score) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIrNep9-jKd0jNE "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKvCaIJ5eLafjtU "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4nMZaFuma-WfJo "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqfOiqqFf7-ChLc "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooLYZoSgnsl7jck "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWmoZH9tnMx_g68 "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmbImqeaYqp0bKs "Dark Chest Of Wonders" live at Wacken 2013 (metal, the greatest show opener ever) kzbin.info/www/bejne/haeydWmumsijnpY "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZ_UlnxuZZyNors "The Islander" live at Tampere 2015 (Marco in charge..) kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKCbn5aBlJqesMU "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJmopnSGjtKSi8k "Alpenglow" live at Wembley 2015 (uplifting / metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKOtp36Qg6qbbck "Sahara" live at Tampa 2016 (middle eastern vibe) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooXZipmClpmKos0 "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXKXZaeglrVopJI "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) kzbin.info/www/bejne/inOylZqun8djoa8 "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmOZo5Ksdr6EZrM "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3-VZGyGl9aVoNE "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqfWl6p3hceKjsU And if you want to be surprised by Floor's vocals :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Mexico City in 2015 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqbaimSaYrB8qdU Link for the whole Wacken 2013 concert: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXLapa2fbLZmeM0 Last but not the least - they released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..) As a biology/science nerd this is my opus. Only Tuomas could put 4.6 billion years of Earth and evolution into the perfect 20 minute musical composition. The calmness and repetitive melody in beginning correlated to the nothingness of space then the hits/collisions causing Earth to take its initial form. Then very first lifeforms beginning…then gets more intense as things “rapidly “ change and even more intense and heavy/sinister with “Toolmaker”. Even the quick “musical evolution “ near end is so well thought out. Lyrically it is perfect description of everything so far. Marko’s bass in this is one of my favorite bass works of all time (plus his vocals -crazy good musician). Floor’s vocals are so great from operatic head voice, speechy drone/robotic like then gritty/distortion and final crazy high repeated belts 🤯. Plus her dress … the white is double stranded DNA helixes (total nerd out for me with that-even the rivets correlate to base pair links) -the fact the camera crew caught the identical twins in audience which is perfect example of how our DNA works is even more awesome. The fact they thank everyone including Floor’s makeup person and dressmaker and their bus driver in addition to all their crew is a testament to how awesome these folks are and why they are so loved by fans like me. Great reaction. Love your channel. Respect from wild wonderful West Virginia 🤘.

So it was special! 🥰 💥 (Note Floor’s outfit it’s a combination of the Finnish flag and also represents a DNA helix). 🇫🇮 🧬 There are so many incredible moments Tuomas has intertwined into this song - ie the history of music is integrated from the Minuet to Metallica and many more - look them up, definitely one of the Greatest Shows on Earth! 🎼 🎶 🎵 🌎 💥 👏

I think you missed an homage to Metalica, Harry, due to talking over the music... it was only a few notes but started around 29:03 and ended by 29:04. Not complaining, you both do fantastic work. While I am not a fan of Dawkins, because he is an atheist, I have to admit some of the words spoken (by him?) at the end of the show are in some way quite profound. with that said; well done to everyone that was a apart of this show. Special recognition to Marko Hiatala (I hope I didn't butcher your name) for his masterful contribution to this group and their overall sound. This is the book "The Greatest Show on Earth" by the scientist Richard Dawkins - in music, effects and singing, and enhanced or specified in different levels - like the evolution of music put in, from tribal drumming over Bach and to Enter Sandman /Metallica. Floor's outfit are illustrating the human dna strings - and she shows so many ways of singing. The synchronized fireworks are illustrating comets and asteroids colliding and creating the Earth. And of course Tuomas and Nightwish named the song " The Greatest Show on Earth" - with a big smile - because people don't realize that's it's the book at first.

I've never clicked faster on a video than I did with this song. My jaw hit the floor when I heard Dawkin's voice, as it confirmed my suspicion of the song title. I then spent the next couple of hours analyzing & deconstructing the song & video. Every time something clicked, my high (enlightenment) grew. By the end of it, I was on a cloud I never wanted to come down from. I thought, being a fan of music, I'd never find the perfect song. Thanks to Nightwish, I finally have. Cheers.

Just for now, it is my duty to introduce you to some info about the lyrics. Lyrics are in " " [Part 1: Four point Six] "Archaean horizon, The first sunrise" Earth's history is divided into four principal Eons: the Hadean, the Archean, Proterozoic, and the Phanerozoic. The Hadean is the Eon during which the Earth and Moon formed; in the Archaean, primordial life appeared. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Earth "On a pristine gaea" Gaia is the primordial Greek goddess of the Earth. More recently, the Gaia hypothesis is a recognition of the living and nonliving Earth systems which form an interdependent whole. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia "Opus perfectum, Somewhere there, us sleeping" Pristine perfection (of silence, of a blank page, of the very point from which the big bang itself sprung) implies a rich creative potential. Here Earth is painted in the same powerful way. Diversity awaits; unborn beings are sleeping the same sleep to which they will return at death. This interpretation is thematically linked with the album's opening track, "Shudder before the Beautiful," which includes the lyrics, "The music of this awe, Deep silence between the notes, Deafens me with endless love." Or as the furious hobbit screamed at the novice trumpeter, "An artist respects the silence, it serves as the foundation of creativity." [Part 2: Life] "The cosmic law of gravity Pulled the newborns around a fire, A careless cold infinity in every vast direction. Lonely farer in the Goldilocks zone" Gravity pulls Earth and the other planets around the energizing Sun in an otherwise inhospitable universe. Earth is the only planet in our solar system's circumstellar habitable zone, orbiting at the "just right, not too hot, not too cold" distance from the Sun. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circumstellar_habitable_zone "She has a tale to tell, From the stellar nursery into a carbon feast, Enter LUCA" In astronomy, stellar nurseries are the birthplaces of stars: they nurse stars Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_formation#Stellar_nurseries Poetically, our solar system is another "stellar nursery," in which a star is the nurse, caring for and warming a planet of 'newborns,' early carbon-based life. "Feast" evokes the incorporation of plentiful chemical building blocks into rudimentary life forms. "LUCA" stands for "Last universal common ancestor," the one single organism from which all other presently existing life on Earth descended. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_universal_ancestor "The tapestry of chemistry is a writing in the garden, Leading us to the mother of all" The periodic table of elements does look like a sort of patchwork tapestry, but this can go further. The historical function of tapestries was as "nomadic murals," pictographical histories which moving people could pack up and revisit wherever they went. The "writing in the garden," in nature, is not only the stone murals left by dead animals in the form of fossils, but is also this chemical writing that encodes the relatively nomadic DNA molecule with the instructions for life. The scientific investigation of this information leads us back to LUCA, and further. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapestry#Function "We are one, We are a universe," This is the natural conclusion to draw from the fact that life shares common origin, that all life is built with the same blocks, and that all life on Earth is interdependent (gaia hypothesis). The multiplicity of beings on Earth are one, just as the cells in a body are one. "Forebears of what will be Scions of the Devonian sea." The Devonian geologic time period marked the first significant, rapid diversification of life (and the more well-known Cambrian explosion is another of these 'adaptive radiation' events). It was during the Devonian that the 'higher plants' appeared and blanketed the continents with forests. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devonian . The word "scion" refers to a shoot of a plant cut for grafting, and is also used to denote a descendent of a notable family. Both meanings apply. "Aeons pass, Writing the tale of us all. A day-to-day new opening For the greatest show on Earth" Evolutionary adaptation is written in the DNA and as fossils in the rocks, and is ongoing. Species die, diversifiy and delineate. Every day is different, every day something changes. "Ion channels welcoming the outside world To the stuff of stars" Ion channels are found in the membranes of all cells, controlling the flow of energy through the cells. The stuff of stars is all the physical matter we're made of. So it's the ion channels, guiding enery, which allow living bodies to interact with the rest of the world by exchanging energy with it. "Stuff of stars" is surely a Sagan reference: "The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff." For fun: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jniuaWeGpMqspM0 "Bedding the tree of a biological holy, Enter life" The bed of a tree is the nutrient-rich soil from which it grows, a soil made of dead things. The "tree of a biological holy" is probably the tree of life en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_of_life_(biology) . This line refers to the "holy" legendary tree of everlasting life but also means the conceptual, branching family tree of all life, whose bed consists of all deceased beings (in a more literal sense), or all extinct ancestral species (in a more abstract sense). This is thematically linked with the song "Alpenglow." "We are here to care for the garden, The wonder of birth Of every form most beautiful" "We" could be human beings tasked with acting as nature's stewards, garden of eden style, but that's not chronological -- human beings haven't quite appeared in the song yet. "We" could instead be all of life itself, in a gaia-philosophy sense, which posits that life creates environments ever more hospitable to more life. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_philosophy Or maybe it's a combination of these two thoughts: life eventually creates an environment suitable for the development of consiously acting, thinking human stewards. [Part 3: The Toolmaker] "After a billion years, The show is still here. Not a single one of your fathers died young." Every single one of a given person's ancestors, male and female, lived past puberty at least. But "fathers" evokes "forefathers," which has a nicer storytelling ring to it than "parents." "The handy travelers Out of Africa Little Lucy of the Afar" Handymen are good with tools; travelers posessing hands rather than forefeet walk upright. Hominids originated in Africa and spread to the rest of the world from there. Lucy is a particular specimen of the Australopithecus, one of many "missing links" between modern humans and nonhuman ancestors. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_(Australopithecus) "Gave birth to fantasy, To idolatry, To self-destructive weaponry. Enter the God of gaps Deep within the past. Atavistic dread of the hunted!" The brain grows, consciousness and creativity along with it. Atavism is the tendency to revert to ancestral type, an evolutionary throwback. Fight-or-flight instincts that helped human ancestors survive have now been creatively projected onto the world to both explain it (origins, meaning, suffering) and gain security in it (bargaining through sacrifice). These are the roots of theism. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atavism "Enter Ionia, the cradle of thought, The architecture of understanding. The human lust to feel so exceptional, To rule the Earth" Nomadic people develop agriculture and settle down into civilizations. The word "architecture" is at once both literal and figurative. The efficiency of civilization graces people with free time to do more than just feed themselves. They develop rich cultural traditions, arts and philosophies, much of which are deeply influenced by how different humans now are from all the rest of life. "Hunger for shiny rocks, For giant mushroom clouds, The will to do as you'd be done by." Shiny rocks are wealth: gold, precious stones, jewels, and later uranium which leads to the nuclear arms race. The golden rule -- "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" -- is a coin with a dark side: "an eye for an eye," revenge. This ensures the "MAD"ness of mutually assured destruction. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutual_assured_destruction "Enter history, the grand finale. Enter ratkind." "Ratkind" comes from Richard Dawkins' book "The Ancestor's Tale." Dawkins imagines a post-apocalyptic world in which rodents feast on the remnants of humanity (and humanity's garbage). The rat population explodes, and then as they exhaust these resources they turn on one another for food. As a consequence of natural selection, the rats diverge into new carnivorous and herbivorous species, and perhaps, eventually, a specices of rodent whose intelligence rivals that of humans. This is "ratkind." Https://iberianature.com/wildworld/tag/ratkind/ "Man, he took his time in the sun, Had a dream to understand A single grain of sand." From William Blake: "To see a World in a Grain of Sand, And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour." ...And the story of the planet in 24 minutes. Not bad. "He gave birth to poetry, But one day'll cease to be. Greet the last light of the library" A bittersweet redundancy: poetry with library, the last light with ceasing to be. Reminiscent of Elan: "Be the first to greet the morn [...] Travel with great élan, dance a jig at the funeral." "We were here!" Who else is going to vote for this song's inclusion on the next Voyager golden record, if there'll ever be one? I want to beam this song into space forever.

The phenomenon of Nightwish and even more so of Floor Jansen is that they will start a song on a scale between 0 and 10 on 2 and you will like it. Then they will turn it up to 4 or 5 and you will be amazed. Then you will realize it's only the first third of the song. Then they will do really crazy stuff and push it up unto 8 or 9 and you will fall in love with them. And then they will blow your mind by doing serious music. Like 12.

Floor is being interviewed and then she goes to a reunion of her Rock Academy Class (I think that's what it is). Then the interviewer interviews Floor and her parents at the venue of the video you just watched (they were in the audience during the show) and then gets to interview her after she is dressed for the show and fixing to go on stage. Thank you for this great reaction to a masterpiece! This makes me still shiver and almost cry when I remember the feeling in this concert. I had been in many many NW-concerts before but this was and still is the "Greatest Show" where I have been. All the people were really united and emotional no matter of nationality. I could write a book about this but it was like "once in a life time" experience. Also Tampere is such a beautiful city and the "aftermath" of the concert was absolutely beautiful. Hugging, dancing, singing, crying, laughing like the whole world together. The only "negative" point about Tampere was/is that every concert in this stadion has to end exactly at 10 pm! (maybe not dark enough for the fireworks and light show). But who cares!!!
