I get the Hathaway reference. This song is blues with a glint of edge. Jimmy Page was a sought-after session musician (so was bassist John Paul Jones) and during his time doing that, he learned production techniques, musical arrangements, etc. so when it came time to produce his own albums, he knew how to get the sounds he wanted, where to place the mics, etc. and said, (paraphrasing) not only did he learn what *to* do, he also learned what *not* to do. This song is full of youthful heartbreak. If you listen closely, not too long into the start of the song, you can hear John Bonham's drum pedal squeak. Often times, Jimmy would leave "mistakes" in on purpose for the listener to catch because he wanted people to feel as if they were there in studio while it was recorded, but this wasn't one of those. Instead of a regular bass, John Paul Jones played the bass pedals of the Hammond organ he played on this song and that outstanding guitar solo was done in one take. Let me also say, I really appreciate that you don't pause during the music; it's a very nice, respectful touch.

"I open my front door, hear my back door slam... ya know I must have one of them new fangled back doors, man." Right there is an expression of both the sadness and frustration of a man working "from 7 to 11 every night" while his girl is cheating on him. That line hits hard and Plant delivered it like a ton of bricks landing on your chest. I've been listening to Led Zepp since I was a teenager and Since I've Been Lovin' You is one of my all time favorite songs -- it's one that has layers that you enjoy more with age. Just found your channel, friend, and I'll be stayin' a while!

Would you believe this wasn't even a hit for them? Pretty much a hidden gem until KZbin came along that only big Zeppelin fans knew. This is another song that is a must to do live. LOL. "Warriors, come out to play......ay." I am from Long Island and was a teenager in the 70's so you know I saw that. One of those movies that it was so bad it was good. I do believe I saw it in the same theater just before or just after I saw Star Wars for the first time. Lets just say the lines for one of the movies was much much much longer. Multiplex's were just starting to become a thing but my multiplex I meant maybe 3 screens. My much older (18 years) brother was in the music business ( Atlantic and Arista records) most of his life and spent plenty of time in the recording studio on both sides of the glass. He has worked with MANY famous musicians. Def Leopard, Aretha Franklin, Taylor Dane, Mariah Carey ( Both Long Island girls) to name a few. He met a very young Steven Tyler (Tallarico) of Aerosmith before he was in Aerosmith and remembers him sitting next to him and being annoying and asking a ton of questions on how things were done. He is from Yonkers not Boston as most think. When they recorded back then they usually didn't record the entire band all at once. They may do the drums one day, the singing another, guitars the next and so on and so on. Then the Engineer would mix all of it together. The genius of Jimmy Page was he was the Engineer on most Zeppelin tracks.

Great reaction! It's so interesting you talked about touring a recording studio. Jimmy Page was a session musician in his teens before Led Zeppelin started. That meant he would go to the studio and be asked to sit in and fill in on recording sessions for various bands. He was hired by the studio and worked as one of many session guitarists. He has said in many interviews that often he never knew which bands were recording on any particular day, and he was expected to be something of a chameleon and be able to play many different styles depending on whether the band was a rock, country, blues, or other kind of band. He also said he learned a lot of how to set up to record live instruments and, importantly, what NOT to do (by witnessing and hearing the mistakes that many producers and engineers made when trying to record various instruments). He also has said that when he would hear new and innovative sounds on records, he would often talk to engineers and producers in the studio and ask how those sounds were recorded. All of that knowledge helped him once Led Zeppelin started making music so that he was able to understand not only how to play the music he wanted to create, but how to record it so he could get the sounds that he wanted on the album. It's also funny that you talked about "mistakes" that turn into magic, and this song features a great example of that. If you listen very closely in some of the quieter moments, there's a little rhythmic mechanical squeak that you can hear. That is the squeak of John Bonham's bass drum pedal. The microphones on the drum kit picked up and recorded that noise. I'm sure that was something they never intended to record or something they didn't realize would make it to the tape, but it adds a kind of ambiance that makes you feel like you are literally in the room with the band when they are playing the song.

Loving the 70s. What hit me in the face like a brick was Robert Plant's vocals. Then there was Freddy Mercury's 4 octave range. Also 4 octave range of Steve Perry, with Neal Schon on Guitar. Journey platinum after platinum became USA first arena band and all arena concerts a sellout. Songs Open Arms, Don't Stop Believing, Wheel In The Sky, Faithfully. So many more songs they did made them one of the best rock bands of all time.

Just found ya , and glad to see you listen to the song in its entirety, as we did. Saw Zepp live in Boston Garden 1971ans had a bitchin side view of stage promoting their 2nd album.. Young, Raw and a Killer Show! Page played his guitar at times using a violin bow behind his back, shredded all night! If time, check out Page with the Yardbirds Live from the 60s. Blues Sounding! Brits shared music through record shops, Night Clubs, recording studios etc Blues from the States is what the Artist gravitated to and built their craft from... Emulating The Great American Blues Artists. Just saying.

Hey Brother, I subscribed a few days ago and keep going on the journey of listening to REAL music. As others have told you, insofar as Zeppelin goes, the studio stuff is gold...GOLD, and necessary listening. But, Zeppelin LIVE in concert was a free expression ride with constantly evolving songs night to night, show to show, due to improvisation, their always dynamic creative ideas and working off of each other sonically in the moment. They had the superior musicianship, talent, musical chops to do so. So with that said, and as a musician all my life...I will advise you ( again, as other's here have ) to listen to the LIVE version of " Since I've Been Loving You " from their 1973 New York City Madison Square Garden concert immortalized in the Zeppelin concert movie, " The Song Remains the Same ". HOWEVER!!!....You've got to listen/watch the correct and ACTUAL/ GOOD version of that LIVE song. There are TWO edits. The ORIGINAL, and some spliced together one with pieces from two different concerts at MSG. You must watch/listen to the ORIGINAL one. The WRONG one that loses the vibe do to wacky sound cuts from two shows spliced into one...is the one that is on the official LED ZEPPELIN channel on KZbin and is titled, the " OFFICIAL " Video. That's bullshit because it ISN'T. The correct, true complete song recording from ONE show from beginning of the song to the end, is the one directly from context from the concert film, " The Song Remains The Same." THAT is the awesome version that is original and with no sound edits. And it is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5irnZV-qcmJgrc On top of being the true complete LIVE recording, it is also in HD...an added plus. So DEFINITELY listen to THAT link for the song, not the, " OFFICIAL " one. Keep forward man. You've entered a whole new musical world. Keep on the journey forever.

It d elites me to see young people getting back to real music, when I say “real” I mean real instruments played without auto tune or a drum machine on tape. You seem like a very intelligent young man, back in the ladder part of the 60’s very young Englishman were studying the greats. Muddy Waters, How’len Wolf, and Robert Johnson. Almost all of the bands coming out of England were rooted in the blues, mix that with Little Richard and James Brown and you have modern rock.
