Sonic '06 is Now Playable on Xbox Series Consoles! | Xenia Canary v. 1.0.1 Gameplay

Xenia Canary v 1.0.1 has been released! This is an emulator that allows PC and now Xbox Series X and S consoles to run Xbox 360 games! Since Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) was never made backwards compatible on Xbox One or Xbox Series X | S, using this emulator is the only way to play Sonic 06 on modern consoles. So far the experience has been solid. Only a couple of weird textures. No crashes as of now, but I will update the description if I encounter any.

Update: Microsoft has banned the use of Xbox emulators in retail mode so you’ll have to learn how to play 06 using dev mode now :(

It really feels like Microsoft is actively working against me. I want to play 06, but NOT ON MY PS3 They're never going to port 06 to Xbox Series, Xenia used to work until I decided to consider trying it, you need a laptop for dev mode, preferably a newer one, mine is broken and old.

you can setup Dev Mode using your phone and just put the ROM on a USB drive.

Is there a way to fix the audio from being out of sync in the CGI opening cutscene?? I also have this exact same issue and idk if it’s fixable. I also see that your game stutters sometimes at 6:32 which also happens to me but I can’t tell if that’s part of the game already being bad or not

Hey man, sadly this no longer works in Retail mode as Microsoft has banned the use there. You’ll have to purchase Dev mode and then you will have to install the Retroarch emulator

I wanted to make one but I was just worried about KZbin’s rules on tutorial videos like that. I can DM you if you have discord or Twitter if you need extra help. There is a Discord link in the description that will help you get started with getting the Xenia emulator on your console. Make sure you have a copy of 06 in the Xex format and a usb drive formatted in NTFS

Xbox made the right call with making a lot of the 360/PS3 era Sonic games backwards compatible on the latest console. We got lucky that Xenia could be emulated through both developer mode and retail mode haha. However, Sony does let you pay for a tier on PS Plus to play PS3 games too. I think they can only be streamed unfortunately

You have to do it in Dev Mode now. Microsoft killed all emulators outside of dev mode :(

Sadly those aren't a part of Xenia, even on PC (I think). The PS3 emulator on PC called RPCS3 does support trophies, but Sonic 06 doesn't have trophies on PS3.

It works great with Unleashed too, but it does crash when you’re in the hub worlds in Unleashed. This happens on PC’s Xenia too. Best bet is just to buy the game on 360 since it is backwards compatible with modern Xbox consoles

@@cordarius_jones23 you have to go to the discord server I linked in the description and then on your console, open Microsoft Edge and search for the URL for Xenia canary in the retail announcements channel. Sometimes you have to check retail-apps-status to see if it the apps are down. At the moment I think they sadly are
