The first time I got to this stage I just stopped, and listened to this tune for a while. The misterious, mechanical sounds in the music fit the stage well. Not all that stands in your way is what you can see, and foolishly rushing in will only send you to an early grave, Robotnik cackling as he turns your strongest weapon against you. Speed alone won't get you to the end, you must use your wits as Robotnik's shadow looms closer the further you infiltrate.

I just love this track! I have to give it to Masato Nakamura, he sure seems like a well rounded musician to me. Dammit my Ipad posted that comment before I could finish it. Anyways, while the first isn't my favorite Sonic game, I think this is the best final area in the entire series. The atmosphere is perfect, the music is intense, tension is really high, the build up to the final battle is great, and it kicks your ass hard. This is Sonic platforming at his finest. Not high speed running, just great platforming. Thats what made the classic games so great.
