Thanks to the recently discovered betas we now know this track was originally intended for Oil Ocean Zone 1P and the final OO track was initially for another zone. Honestly, I think the track works well both for its original purpose and the one it ended up being used for, but it certainly gives Oil Ocean a very different feel.
@zac.t39755 жыл бұрын
I’m trying to image this song in oil ocean It would make it feel lively but also dangerously creepy.which does’nt really fit the stage’s feel it’s suppose to be a factory kind of area with an oil filled ocean. Personally I think the final one fits perfectly with the state’s environment making it feel like....an oil ocean. It has all those oily instruments that just fit with the stage.they both sound dangerous but they’ve got different dangerous feelings
@Velotican5 жыл бұрын
You can get a taste of how it could have been by searching for the Aug 21 1992 prototype showcase on KZbin. That build uses this track when playing Oil Ocean Zone. There's a zone that was never implemented in a build named "Sand Shower Zone" that can be found in the very early planning documents for Sonic 2. I've seen speculation that the final track was originally meant for that zone, as Dust Hill ended up being something else entirely. For me the most interesting part of this is the implication that the music was being worked on right from the beginning of the project, and that they decided to use almost everything they were given in some way as the design of the game was changed.
@Ahng_Noying95744 жыл бұрын
We've already known that since the much older 'Simon Wai' prototype...

@majman446 Жыл бұрын
Dust Hill Zone was an early name for Mystic Cave Zone. The true name of the scrapped desert level is Sand Shower Zone. Edit: I'd like to correct myself. There is also a theory that there were two desert levels planned to be in the game. Dust Hill and Sand Shower. Because look at Mystic Cave, does that look like a fucking dusty hill to you?!
@gamerdudeorsomething Жыл бұрын
@@majman446 Dust Hill being an early name for Mystic Cave seems so dumb, where is the dusty hills? Its likely that Dust Hill was being overwritten with Mystic Cave or something and they just had not changed the name yet. Maybe Dusty Hill and Sand Shower were names for the same zone? Channels 0-5 all use the same waveform, 1 cycle sine wave with a reset shot between each cycle. Channel 0 really shows you what the waveform looks like as if it were zoomed in on when it's really just at a low frequency. Channel 4 is the unique one though since it was tracked to having a high frequency with smaller sine waves at the peak and trough of the main cycle then shooting straight into a low frequency bassline to compliment CH 0 for a short time. The music programmers definitely knew what they were doing when they programmed the music using the tracker program for the game.

Reading the comments hurts my brain because so many people think they know what they’re talking about and they don’t. This song was likely the original Oil ocean zone track as some prototypes used it as that. I also want to state that OOZ’s final track was NOT made for dust hill initially, as dust hill was just an early name for mystic cave zone. The scrapped desert level you’re thinking of is called “Sand Shower Zone”, and it’s original track was likely what eventually was used as OOZ’s theme. It hasn’t been outright confirmed, but the instruments quite literally sound middle eastern and desert-y, and we’ve also learned that likely every 2P song was originally intended for use in a regular zone at some point but were repurposed for two player mode later on.
