The casting of Tails was a big deal in the fandom because it was one of the few times the actual voice actor of the character in the games got brought into the film. Everyone else so far has been recast. There was even a campaign to help give her a top billing on the posters because originally everyone else was credited except Colleen O'Shaughnessey.

Only straight out of both the Sonic Boom games and the mainstream games like Forces, Team Sonic Racing and Frontiers. Colleen only got her start in the Sonic series voicing Charmy the Bee of the Chaotix first because another actress was voicing Tails in games like Lost World, Colors, Free Riders and Generations during the early 2010's. She didn't do Tails yet until both Sonic Boom: Rise of Luric and the Sonic Boom cartoon premiered in 2014.

Also it is Ben Schwartz being the movie Sonic while the actual 3 voices of Sonic from the games were already Ryan Drummond, Jason Griffith (Straight out of the Sonic X cartoon) and Roger Craig Smith. Whoever was voicing Knuckles in the games I forget but Dan Green (Also from Sonic X) is also one of the voices of Knuckles the Echidna and Idris Elba was the movie version of him. Jim Carrey being the movie version of Dr. Eggman while Mike Pollock (Sonic X again) was already Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik for 18 years now since the previous actor passed away in the 2000's.

Kate Higgins was already Miles "Tails" Prower the fox in early 2010's Sonic Games like Free Riders, Colors, Generations and Lost World before Colleen stepped in for Tails in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric while she was previously Charmy the Bee.

The way in which they did that was due to Shiro Maekawa's writing. Regardless, it IS correct that, due to his popularity, he came back and continued appearing in the series.

I think many, including myself, prefer the second film because there's a lot more elements from the games represented in the film. The first was a solid film on its own, but as a Sonic film, it didn't have a whole lot of Sonic elements. But the second film further develops what the first film established while adding in many elements from the games that Sonic fans were hoping for. Things like Tails, Knuckles, the Echidna tribe, Eggman's design, the Master Emerald, the Chaos Emeralds, G.U.N., Labyrinth Zone, the Death Egg Robot, Super Sonic; they're all represented well.

Nothing in the first game is represented in the first movie, barring Green Hill in the opening and the Special Stage rings. Assuming Green Hill in the movie is South Island, Sonic left in his infancy and Robotnik never invaded.

@@AdamRee-lx8uh The only thing that links the first film to the first game is Sonic vs Eggman. That's about it, really. There's nothing about Eggman invading nature and turning animals into robots while building his army. The film's plot of Sonic being an alien with some special power that Eggman wants to harness while Sonic bonds with a human family is wholly original. But the second film's core plot is essentially a loose adaptation of Sonic 3 and Knuckles with elements of Sonic 2 mixed in. You got Eggman wanting the Master Emerald, tricking Knuckles into working with him, getting Knuckles and Sonic to fight, Knuckles realizing that he was tricked and that Sonic isn't so bad, them teaming up, and ending with a Super Sonic fight.

But it’s still based on the first game, even though it doesn’t include animals being kidnapped by Dr. Eggman. The reason is because Sonic is the only character in the first game, and the second movie that includes Tails and Knuckles is based on the second and third games.

So Golden Sonic as you called him is actually called Super Sonic a transformation that makes him practically invulnerable to damage and enhances all of his abilities by a lot and he has so much power that in the games he has even defeated gods with this form. The final cutscene revealed a new Rival for sonic by the name of Shadow the Hedgehog after Project Shadow an artificial life form created to be the Ultimate Lifeform.

Which just so happened to be Sonic, himself. It's said that Dr. Gerald Robotnik based his bio-lizard design off of the Perfect Chaos mural shown in Sonic Adventure. His second design for the ultimate lifeform was based on the Sonic 3 mural where Sonic is shown to be fighting against Eggman. That's why Shadow is a Hedgehog.

This was a solid movie. I think the first may be "the better film" but this was a love letter to fans. Introducing both Tails and Knuckles and making them both shine in this movie was a feat. Seeing Super Sonic and the Death Egg Robot in live action was great. I hope they keep the momentum with Sonic 3 and do Shadow a proper amount of justice.

Fr I hope the same. Especially since Sonic 3 will be going over Shadow, a creation of Gerald Robotnik's, his grandfather, to save his cousin. This is a story that adds depth to Ivo and allows him to actually be an ally for once. Plus, part of the reason Sonic Adventure 2's plot worked imo is because we got a taste of what Ivo could have been if Ivo became truly unhinged. Gerald's descent to madness concluded in a plan to destroy the earth, an angle that Ivo has never gone down prior to this point (and really, aside from Unleashed and maybe Generations, Ivo never raised the stakes that high.)

Yeah Tails has always been a boy because him and sonic have a sort of brotherly bond between them as well as sonic being viewed as a mentor for him. And this movies does help show the bond between all three especially at the baseball field since it's feels like a family playing a game.

The interesting thing about Sonic possibly being a mentor figure for Tails, is it makes things come full circle. Sonic started out immature and like a typical teenager, but now that we've introduced Tails and Knuckles, they can show how he's grown. He can really be a big brother to Tails, especially if they keep his fear of lightning intact and use that in a scene.

Don't know if maybe this would be worth reacting to, but a few weeks ago there was a fan-film created called "Project Shadow". It's basically a fan-made prologue that covers the origin of Shadow, the black hedgehog shown at the end of the movie. Seeing as you two are blind with Sonic lore, I think it'd be interesting to see the reaction of someone who doesn't know Shadow's story.

I REALLY hope that they use Shadow's theme song in the next movie. I REALLY REALLY wanna hear Crush40 in the next movie. Shadow's song is All I Am by Crush40 and its just unapologetically edgy and cool and I love it. I hate the word edgy but Shadow is and i hope they lean into it. Crush40 has done a LOT of sonic music in the past so I hope they do some for the movies.

I personally think this sequel was a better film than the first, not only one but many things to look forward to and very entertaining all the way through the film. Which is hard for these kinds of movies to nail and for my take is get them to buy the ticket to the movie, own the movie and rewatch it replay it etc. Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 are with a doubt in my mind very rewatchable and not only hit the fan's taste buds or even the internets interests but even families looking to watch a fun wholesome movie that is great on all angles. Those are quite remarkable and hopefully the spin series of Knuckles and Sonic 3 will keep the fun and story and characters right chugging along. Just like the classic games and the modern Sonic games. And even the old cartoons and the new Sonic Boom series and Sonic Prime etc. Sonic is getting a resurgence of sorts and it is amazing. Can't wait for more Sonic future content. Even the animated new Mario movie(s) look promising and rewarding

Id recommend seeing more death battles with Sonic characters. In order to famliraize yourself with the characters. They tend to lose but its still a good way to get to know them better. Tails is a boy. Real name, Miles Prower. (a put for miles per hour). "Tails" is a nickname. Shadow is a very popular character introduced in 2001, early on when the 3D games started coming out. So it would definitely be AFTER whatever you guys saw regarding Sonic. (Even what you did see on the Genesis, I'm sure story wasn't something a lot of casual players paid attention to as much as simply collecting rings and destroying robots, running through loops.) Sonic actually has a very extensive storyline and lore by now that the movies don't follow but take heavy inspiration from before absolutely remixing it. If you see the movies, you know nothing of the game's lore. But you at least get tidbits of elements from the games, such as the emeralds, Echidna tribe, and Super Sonic. These things are from the games, but are just presented in a somewhat different way. (Well Super Sonic is pretty straightforward. You get all 7 Chaos Emeralds and turn into Super Sonic to fight Avenger-level threats. And Sonic DOES fight world-ending threats.)

first Tails is not a girl, he is a boy but he is voiced by a woman. There hasn't been a Sonic's female character yet, however it is speculated that Amy Rose or Rouge the Bat (orprobably both of them) are going to appear in the sequel. Also the character that appears in post credit scene is Shadow the Heaghot and he is a fan favorite character, he is an antithesis of sonic.

As much as I understand the criticism on the whole sister wedding arc, it actually served the purpose of introducing the GUN organisation, which is pretty important. It's kinda like SHIELD from the Marvel movies, only not that complex.

Also, I loved the first movie for being a good movie featuring Sonic. But I favor the second movie for showing what's referred to as "Team Sonic" (the Sonic, Tails & Knuckles trio, which is iconic to the franchise even amongst the many characters that have been introduced since) Also because the CGI was much better, due to not having to rush anything. They had the designs and style solidified by this point. Robotnik looks a little more like in the games now, except for the part where he's supposed to be fat (egg shaped technically). A lot of the action was elevated and more game like such as the different environments they go to. The emeralds. The echidna tribe. G.U.N. (introduced in the same game as Shadow, but are pre-established, not newly established like in the movie) The Tornado (the red plane Tails flies. It's in many of the games including the old school ones on the Genesis which it's identical to actually) Super Sonic. The giant Eggman robot (inspired by the Death Egg Robot from the games, a giant robot of Robotnik aka Eggman that you fight on a Death Star type fortress in space perfectly named the Death Egg. lol It's literally a Death Star with eyes and a mustache.) I can't wait to see you guys react to the third movie in about a year, year and a half. It will likely have even more action and potentially heavier drama. Maybe not as heavy as the story in the 2 games the third movie will take inspiration from. But pretty heavy. Shadow has a very sad and dark backstory for what you expect from Sonic. Let's just say I don't expect them to portray a GUN soldier shooting a 12 year old girl. Who's ill with a nerve disease. c: lol

I think what this movie showed is that the human aspect isn't really needed as much if at all. The real fun is when it's Sonic and friends against Dr. Robotnik. Of course, we have Shadow in the forefront it seems for the next movie if they choose to make it.

The sonic movies have been pretty good. I give 'em a 6/10. They'd be better, in my opinion, if they had stuck with the already existing lore from the comics and games.

The character in the post credit scene is shadow this is who he is Shadow is the second most popular character of the whole franchise he first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 He was created 50 years ago to be the ultimate life form by robotniks grandfather his name is Gerald Robotnik on a space station called space colony ark to cure his granddaughter Maria who had an illness Maria and shadow became close friends but then GUN thought project shadow was to dangerous so they invaded the ark killing everyone who was involved with the project except for Gerald and then Maria gets shot and her last words to shadow was to help humanity then shadow got sent to earth GUN eventually he gets captured by them putting him is suspended animation for 50 years Gerald wanted revenge for Maria's death so he altered shadow memories so when he woke up he was going to destroy the world then Gerald got put to rest 50 years later Eggman found out about it and woke shadow up shadow only remembered wanting revenge but thanks to Amy Rose (another sonic character) shadow remembered what Maria truly wanted then he decides to help and turns into super shadow with super sonic then he uses chaos control to stop the ark from crashing into earth using all of his energy then he falls to earth sacrificing himself but then he gets brought back to life because he became SUCH a popular character

if they delete the entire wedding subplot, this film would be a 10. The stupid slow motion bride bit was lame. My mate went for a crap, returned and asked what he missed, told him nothing important. Afterwards when i explained the scene, he thought i was lying because of how crap it sounded.

I was kinda-slightly clenched in the theater at the 'is Sonic evil with all that power?' moment - I'm in the UK, and in the British comics, Super Sonic IS evil. The raw power doesn't mesh well with a living mind, and he becomes this hate-driven berserker. Imagine Superman with the Hulk's uncontrolled nearest-target fury, but add in raw spite that makes all his decisions for him. Absolutely terrifying interpretation.

admittedly the british comics are pretty old and it's one of those existing materials before adventure 1 like the sonic tv shows America got etc and everything was re-established what is canon and what isn't by having stuff like eggman and robotnick being both existing names but sonic calls him eggman as a funny nickname

You'll have to wait and see the third movie to really learn who Shadow is, but he's a fan favourite character and we're all hoping they nail his writing. I have some hope that we'll get to have some interaction between Shadow and Tom or if not Tom another human character for Shadow to meet (Sonic fans will know what I mean with this but bring in a version of Helen from X for that role).

Pretty unusual opinion to prefer the first movie over the second, but it is much more a movie for the fans with all the references and setup for the next movie. Like GUN is a huge part of shadows story, and all the new lore for the emeralds.
