Previous watcher over here. Based on my theory, the mid credit scene supposedly happened during the early film of sonic 4, just like when Tails shows up during the early Sonic 2 when Tails came out of his ring before the scene when Eggman knocked on Sonic front door knop. Allegedly, the metal sonics didn't look like they'd come from earth, I may suggested, remembering the Robotnik's satelite existed in space. Could it be, that the satelite may have found Robotnik's existence? We'll see it. Plus, could it be Tails and Knuckles knew Amy all along, and ask her assistence? I mean, Tails knew about Knuckles before he met Sonic. Also, what if the black hole that consumed both Ivo Robotnik and Shadow travels them to another part of the universe. There's is a possibility the story taking imitation from real life theories, one of which is if there's a black hole that sucks everything in, there must be a white hole on the other side that throws everything out. Don't forget the future villain option for future Sonic Cinematic Universe, especially Chaos and Shadow's dad. That's all folks, see ya on my YT channel (somehow) ::}

So the whole Metal Sonic and Amy is taking elements from Sonic CD which the overall plot is that a time traveling Planetoid called “Little Planet” appears over a mysterious lake for a month which contains Time Stones. Metal’s introduction is clearly pulling from Terminator so this entire movie (or spin off) will probably be watered down to Metal coming back from the future to assassinate Sonic and Amy follows them to save him because of her “destiny” because in the official booklet she used tarot cards to lead her to her destiny. So the only question is how they plan on making the villain of the story happen because Robotnik quote unquote became a good guy in the end of the 3rd movie but there’s always room for him to revert back to his evil ways (and if Jim Carrey still wants to do the role) a lot of people are saying that Stone becomes evil and sets everything in motion but it’s a stretch, Lastly depending on how the franchise goes they’re slowly adding more characters by the end of the movie and the potential story for Sonic 5 is either going to be Chaos or Silver

Metal Sonic has to be from the future since Ivo Robotnik Eggman didn't have time to create that robot before helping Gerald Robotnik also could Amy Rose be also from the future since she took down those robots with ease

I think this is as close to the same theory as mine. I think while this does possibly open up sonic cd/heroes/prime(?) they’re going to either have to explain that metal was created in secret during the same time frame or shortly after shadows creation. It would make sense for the program being shut down (in the movies, since we didn’t get any real reason) and in Ivo AND Gerald’s death, it was a contingency plan and activated then. The other theory is of course shadow teleported him and saved him. But by doing so, metal was still activated by Gerald’s death. This leaves shadow’s redemption arc to either save the world from metal or join him and fight team sonic. Amy is either from the future (judging by the tech on the hammer) or simply commissioned tails for it and they bridge the gap like that. she didn’t pop out of a ring as far as we saw!
