The final track is an unused Knuckles variant for when playing a special stage. The used special stage track is the tails variant.

10:06 Is actually a scrapped special stage in this tape but it goes used in the final. Edit:For the intro and Panic Puppet

Side A 1. Opening (Short Ver.) 0:00 2. Opening (Long Ver.) 0:15 3. Power Up 0:44 4. Green Alley Zone Act 1 1:42 5. Casino Night Zone Act 1 4:26 6. Boss (Minor Key) 7:19 Side B 1. Boss (Major Key) 8:43 2. Special Stage 10:06 3. Bonus Stage (Miles) 13:08 4. Bonus Stage (Knuckles) 14:57 Composed by Jun Senoue *This is how these tracks are labeled on the original Demo Tape, with some of them having different names. Green Alley became Green Grove and Casino Night turned into Spring Stadium. The Special Stage theme was later used as Panic Puppet Zone Act 1 and Miles’ (Tails) Bonus Stage theme took the Special Stage's place, with Knuckles’ Bonus theme being left on the cutting room floor along with both Boss themes. These unused tracks later found new life, with the Knuckles’ Bonus Stage used for the Pleasure Castle section of Twinkle Park in Sonic Adventure (1998) and the Boss theme was used in Sonic 4 Episode I (2010).

I feel really sad that they decided to use a completely different OST for the Saturn Version. I don't want to look down on Richard Jacques's work on the Saturn, but Japanese composers just knew how to make the catchiest tunes ever. None of the songs on the Saturn version are catchy at all. I'd've loved to see Senoue's work with unlimited hardware restrictions on the Saturn, really. The same goes for Sonic CD US version. I just can't understand how western composers think it's better to have a more ambient sound than catchy music. When we play Sonic we want to me immersed in this fantasy cartoonish world, but westerners tend to be overly realistic and it's just a bummber imho. Anyway, I'm really happy to see (or rather listen) to this tape to see Senoue's creativity not bound to any limitation. It's just fantastic!!!
@Yuushz803 жыл бұрын
Just to be clear: There are amazing western composers as well, just think about Tee Lopes: he's a genius!
@shyguy853 жыл бұрын
@@Yuushz80 he's not from america i dont think but yeah ive noticed american soundtracks go for more atmospheric feeling tracks. not a bad thing for most games tho, look at half life for example
@Yuushz803 жыл бұрын
@@shyguy85 totally agree with you. we can also use metroid as an example of the same generation. the point is: atmospheric soundtrack doesn't fit the tone of the franchise
@gianni507253 жыл бұрын
@@shyguy85 Yeah, that kind of soundtrack works really well for more mature/dark games. Another great example is the amazing Fallout 1 soundtrack, which is all ambient music, but completely immerses you in the game despite the limitations of 90s graphics. Metallic Monks, Flame of the Ancient World, and especially Desert Wind especially bring the whole dreadful world of Fallout to life. Never thought the sound of whistling wind could sound so creepy and depressing.
