We've created the Past tracks as hypothetical Redbook variants on the @churchofkondo KZbin channel. Most of the instruments here are available in software form. I'm using Roland Anthology 1990 which is a library of the D-70 and the JD-800 VST. The 01/W doesn't have a VST, but the M1 VST has a few of its sounds, including all of the ones used here (flute and Rhodes).

I absolutely LOVE this track! Ive tried playing CD but I couldn’t make it past Collision Chaos. But this? This must be the JP version. I think the JP version has the best instrumentation! Less bit crunch as opposed to the US version!

There aren't US and JP versions of the Past tracks since they are programmed music and not CD-quality streamed audio. All of them are based on the JP soundtrack. Salad Plain (the original name of Palmtree Panic), like the rest of the stages, were originally going to have Past tracks that also were CD-quality. The reason for the change was to give them a more prehistoric feel since video game music before CD audio was lower quality and actually programmed into the game file. That and the chip used to play the Past themes handled mostly lower quality sound samples.

@@PKSuperStar256 Fair, but @Nuclear [NUKELEDGE] made this using the original keyboard that was used for the production of the tracks in 1993. There’s a huge list of the keyboards used for every major franchise you can think of. And they’re still finding more to this day. He can tell you that there’s a massive Google Sheet of all the information! The Primary Keyboards used are a mix of Yamaha, KORG, and Roland Keyboards.

What are you talking about? Sonic CD used it plenty. It not only incorporated it into the Past themes, but also a few sound effects created with actual samples (like vocal effects and glass shattering). If you're talking about other Sega CD games, then yeah.

To be fair, if most developers were given a choice to go with Ricoh or CD audio, they would just choose the latter because that's the main attraction of their game, CD audio. The Ricoh chip would only be used if they couldn't fit all their CD audio in or they wanted higher quality sound effects that could play instantly.

Quartz Quadrant's Nylon guitar is Internal - I-65: Nylon Choir, from the Roland JD-800. The one used in Salad Plain is Internal - I32: Nylon Gtr 2 from Roland JV-80.
