Last September at the Ypsilanti Freighthouse, Detroit-based saxophonist Marcus Elliot led a seven-piece band of musicians and artists in the world premiere of Sonic Contributions: Honoring the Past, Present, and Future of the African American Community in Ypsilanti, MI.
The final dress rehearsal of this monumental work was filmed, and is now available free on demand! Watch, listen, celebrate, and honor the resilience that the African American community in Ypsilanti has shown throughout time.
'Sonic Contributions' is presented in partnership with the African American Cultural & Historical Museum of Washtenaw County and commissioned by UMS in celebration of Ypsilanti's bicentennial.
