Yeah and he’s still doing crazy stuff with it too, the recent debug builds have some stages supporting double interlaced rendering (Sonic 2s 2 player mode). I won’t be explaining why that’s a technical feat, just know it’s pretty impressive.

Seeing all the shenanigans in the special stages (like intentionally skipping rings or hitting bombs) is genuinely painful to watch

If you won't hit bombs then you'll get a too long perfect bonus. Same as rings, if you'll get them too many.
