Here, we see the use of an ancient technology known as cubemaps. They have been in use for at least 10 years and are very fast to render.

so... just the stage then? get it cuz stages in this game are barren of enemies or items? :P

Looks like a shitty jpeg of a "confirmed Sonic level".
@ThatOneDudeWhoPostsStuff6 жыл бұрын
I think it isn't a render or texture, but instead a real time reflection of the stage in an extremely low-poly, quality form.
@JaysonJeansChannelTM6 жыл бұрын
You're correct. The cube show a "cubed" skybox of the stage.
@nviox57206 жыл бұрын
Why are people complaining because the reflections of a little object in a giant stage aren't perferct? Every game has things like this because if not they wouldn't be playable because of the amount of things that the PC would be processing.
@gameman58046 жыл бұрын
Nviox Because it’s Sonic Forces. People will complain about the smallest of aspects.

I dont see why some people are complaining about reflections you wouldnt see in normal gameplay.

Really nice attention to detail. I have more respect for this game. Tho i wish they would spend more time are bigger details like the gameplay and level design
@cjgg48856 жыл бұрын
tjlnintendo It's kind of backwards for me. They used the time of development for this? I'm somewhat pissed that they used resources (not much) and time to make reflections of the stage to make it more simplified.
@tjlnintendo6 жыл бұрын
CJG G I agree. They focused on looks more than design
@CuteAnimeGirl6 жыл бұрын
That's probably because they spent 3 years just developing the engine to make everything look better. This game was barely in development for a year to release it in time for Christmas sales (why else would they release it in November?)
@asshatt69086 жыл бұрын
Guys, it's a reflection map. Games have been using these for years now, And yes, they tend to be very pixelated to save space.
@asshatt69086 жыл бұрын
Ok, that and also things I like to call reflection worlds, where instead of reflecting the game-world, it reflects a lower quality version of the world, and use that as a reflection
@ElectroBlastLuigi6 жыл бұрын
Nice pointing that out. I'm one of those gamers who would pull stunts like searching through levels and explore different sprites and everything like you did. People like us would enjoyed these moments and soon find this reflection from those cubes. Well... we might be the only gamers here who does that but I'd be happy if we're not alone. I mean who couldn't resist knowing the details of levels, items, sprites, models, and everything else in a video game?
@jamainegardner41936 жыл бұрын
The park avenue reflections look like they're showing a 3D perspective on a 2D area late in the stage

I find it weird that Park Avenue looks better in it's reflection... Mostly because of the colors. Honestly, the actual stage is nothing but one shade of orange. But in the reflection, the water is blue, the grass is green, etc. It feels more life filled... BUT HEY, IT'S NOT EDGY UNLESS EVERYTHING IS THE COLOR OF FIRE, AND THERE'S NOTHING BUT RUBBLE EVERYWHERE, RIGHT?

Is that an avatar with an Asteroid wispon in the Capital City reflection?
@XaneMyers6 жыл бұрын
Whoa, why do things look paper-thin inside the reflection? I was expecting a static reflection of the skybox but there are low-, flat images moving inside the cubemap! I would say they're outside the walls of the area you're in but then I see Park Avenue and there's clearly images on the sides...does the game always have a low-quality version of the area loaded but invisible except through cubemaps? 4:32 Weird...why does that look like a room rather than a road? It's like the room Infinite's fought in or something. Plus something's visible standing there...an avatar? Someone needs to rip these cubemaps from the game!
