This boss fight could've been improved all the way. While he keeps his magnetic powers, I think a planetoid stage fight with improved game mechanics as a second phase in the boss would've been a nice reference to remember Zavok's debut in Sonic Lost World.

Watching this fight takes me back to facing Zavok for the first time playing Sonic Forces for the first time, and the fact that he was the game's first boss actually got me hyped. However, I was struggling with how to hit him. I mean, video game logic can dictate that if something sounds the ground hard enough, it creates a shockwave, therefore I thought when Zavok would make his mech pound the ground, a shockwave would occur, and instincts tell me to jump. I didn't know that you actually had to not jump in order to get the height necessary to home-attack Zavok. It wasn't until what felt like a half hour for before I finally figured out how to damage him. It was satisfying to finally beat my favorite member of the Deadly Six, next to Zazz, in this first boss fight, but some of that satisfaction was taken away when it turned out that the Zavok you fought was just an illusion. I was like "What? A fake? Why?".

I feel like bringing back Zavok wasn't too bad of an idea. I'd say he was my favorite member of the Deadly 6. That's not saying much but still. But they barley did anything with him in the game and was only here for fanservice. Although I will say I like his boss fight. It's nice to see them finally go back to these style of bosses and not constantly doing something with Sonic running on a straightaway, and waiting for a homing attack.

They did more with Zavok than they did with the other Phantom Clones. Phantom Chaos and Phantom Shadow was literally only there for two cutscenes where they didn't do anything, Phantom Metal had no speaking lines and a boss battle that was a copy of Infinite's, but Phantom Zavok got a unique boss battle as well as actual dialogue. Forces is the definition of wasted potential.

Sonic looks pretty good for a guy that seemingly got tortured for months. It would've been cool for him being tortured to actually have an effect on him in the boss fight, as he wouldn't be able to move around as much as he used to, and have this fight be inspired by some of the Batman Arkham ones like TN1 Bane and Mr. Freeze, where you have to rely on your smarts and the environment to take him down.

How the fuck am I supposed to hit him when he does his ground pound? I jump, but no matter how I time it, the homing reticle doesn't appear. What am I doing wrong?

Len Kagamine If you're still having trouble, let Zavok do his ground pound but get out of the way of course. Let him ground pound, DO NOT jump after he ground pounds, as it won't allow you to get high enough to homing attack. Instead, get out of the way and stay on the ground. The ground pound will shake the ground, and the impact from the ground pound on the ground will automatically shoot you high enough to homing attack Zavok. That's how you do it, jumping over the ground pound won't get you high enough.

I didn’t know much about this Zavok guy, but I heard he was responsible for the stolen energy from the Lost Hex. But why though? Does the energy make him stronger? The only time I’ve ever encountered him was the battle against clones created by the Phantom Ruby. His fire breathing reminds me of Bowser.
