27:07 that transition is very cool. Something like that should be used for Sonic 3 Complete or A.I.R. when going from Mushroom Hill to Sandopolis. In MHZ, the ghost will swarm the player until they disappear. Then, in SPZ, the player will start as a stone statue and will have to jump to break free Altered Beast style.

If this hack is related to the old Shadow in Sonic 2 Hacks, then my god look at how much was improved after all these years. Worth the wait. If not related to that hack....... I would consider this a spiritual successor to the Shadow in Sonic 2 Hacks.

What's the point of naming it "Return of Shadow" if Shadow seems to have not done much except warp the 2 to different zones? Hack looks good, but still, Shadow appears for at least around a minute to 2, and does barely anything

@@paulo547 Look at the half pipe as it turns. It actually doesn't transition into a turn at all. One moment that half pipe is completely straight, then suddenly the half pipe is curved without warning. These special stage tracks are made out of individual pieces that can be put together like Legos. There was supposed to be a track piece that transitions from straight into a right turn, but, instead, the hacker accidentally put in two track pieces that start as a right turn and then transitions to a straight path. Look at the video again and you'll see how that right turn starts with a warning and then repeats itself.

To be fair, that's usually what the first acts of the first zones are like in the Classic games (Act 1 of both GHZ & EHZ can be cleared under 30 seconds, and Act 1 of AIZ can be cleared under a minute), so at least it's following tradition.

@maltese 0217 If you used the Knuckles in Sonic 1 Hack, Yes, you can beat Marble 1-3 really quickly, where in Marble 2 you can skip the entire level.

Could someone help me? I'm trying to install it but when I click on the .bin file it starts to extract the files like I'm pretty sure it's supposed to, but less than even half a second later my computer closes that and said "How do you want to open this file?" and there aren't any options there, only to look for an app in the microsoft store. How do I stop that from happening?

No offense to JoeNickROS, but I swear, I feel like this hack gets worse with every update. Then again, I have no experience in ROM hacking, so I can't say that I could do better. That being said, I think that the first few revisions before 2018 were better.

For a game called "Return of Shadow", you barely see him. Where did he even go and why is he back now? He seems more like a rushed afterthought just to give the game somewhat logical level transitions and another playable character. And another thing, the available levels doesn't seem to have a rhyme or reason as to why they're there. The game also seems to favor falling down and going back above ground a lot. It's weird, but what's even more weird is the Sonic.exe boss. Just... why? This hack doesn't seem to know what it wants to do or be. Very mediocre, overall.

I wouldn't go as far as to dismiss it as mediocre. I do agree with you though, the flaws here are very apparent and it shows the hack isn't really designed with a proper theme or logical way. But that aside, the hack is well made, the level design works pretty well and allot of that was added takes dedication and passion because that's no easy task. Even the Sonic.exe cameo boss, that's a new programmed boss battle in a Halloween like themed zone. That alone deserves praise and respect, even if its...Sonic.exe. There is allot transitions, but these are also new transitions that's unusual. Such as the ghosts transporting sonic in a new stage. I would say that the hack is pretty cool and impressive, but it isn't amazing nor perfect. It lacks a proper identity and consistency which are still valid criticism.
