Really late, but the most logical thing is that the good ending of CD is canon, however, Sonic doesn't get the Time Stones, he instead destroys the generators, which is the other way of getting the good ending. And Eggman probably used the Time Stones to bring Metal back.

To clear up the Confusion, I have set up two timelines after Mania. First Timeline: after Sonic Mania, Classic Sonic was sent to Forces, and after Forces it leads to The Mania Adventures. Bad ending, eggman collects all the emeralds and the phantom ruby, and classic sonic never travels to the modern timeline to save modern tails from Chaos. And the classic world is doomed and the modern world is too. Classic sonic helps stop modern eggman with modern sonic and your custom character in the good ending and Modern tails is saved by classic sonic (Even though tails could’ve kicked Chaos’s ass.) In the good ending, classic sonic travels to the modern timeline and saves tails, classic sonic helps beat eggman. he travels back to the classic timeline and either fails to collect the emeralds again which allows the heavy king to take over the world with the emeralds you failed to collect and the phantom ruby, or you have all chaos emeralds and you escape and leave eggman to potentially die or get sent to the modern timeline. No one knows what happened to classic eggman.

Also, when he was in Generations, that was cool! Sonic generations was all about celebrating 20 years of Sonic. Sonic revisited zones and bosses from the past. It was a cool idea to have Sonic’s younger self in there. Classic Sonic in forces felt forced. Actually, it was forced. They put him in there just to get people to buy the game. Also, he serves no goddamn purpose, he has some of the worst music in the entire Sonic series, and controls HORRIBLY. 1. The Bad Ending only happens if you don’t get all 7 Chaos Emeralds, so it’s bad because Eggman still got his hands on them. Secondly, in the True Ending (at least that’s what I call it because it’s canon) Sonic travels into the future, all the way to Sonic Forces. Classic Sonic played an important role in saving the world from Eggman in the modern world, so if CS wasn’t teleported to Forces, the world would probably remain under Eggman’s control, everyone would be turned into Badniks, and MS would likely either also be turned into a Badnik, tortured for the rest of his life, or killed by Eggman or one of his cronies. So yeah, I’d say this is probably the worst Sonic ending ever, probably even worse than Sonic Advance 2’s, where it’s implied Tails was killed by Eggman.
