I'm just now realizing why this song sounds familiar. They sampled "Best of My Love" By The Emotions, even the intro of the song and the bassline matches up! I'd never thought I'd get to hear R&B Oldies mixed into a sonic song!

It is hard to put into words what makes a good "Act 2 Remix," but this song somehow manages to make it happen. It reinvents the Act 1 theme so that it's not just a remix or arrange of the same song, but it is still in the spirit and energy of the original. It's a really weird balance!

Sonic finds the remains of the oldest civilization to grace South Island. They built cities inside a network of caverns, they built monuments and artwork to worship their gods, The area had easy access to huge pools of water, which was a blessing at first, until the day where the entire carven and the cities within were flooded, the South Island civilization seemingly wiped out without a trace other then the remains of their old artwork and cities. Over time the stone tiles that were used to make the cities and monuments were seemingly randomized in layout, kind of like a labyrinth.

Transition from Spring Yard Zone: After beating the boss and clearing the level, Sonic leaves the city and walks onto a stone platform with a button. He presses it, and the wall in front of him opens, revealing the entrance to the Labyrinth. Transition to Starlight Zone: After beating the boss and clearing the level, geyser bursts from the floor, pushing Sonic upwards. He then emerges in Starlight just as the sun sets. The level starts just as it turns nighttime.

Nice use of the chord sequence from Best of my love by The Emotions, intentional or otherwise. Not everyone is aware of the similarity between the two, and a few other 70's tracks that use similar bass line and chord sequences all of which I'd assume Masato Nakamura must have been influenced by in part. Anyway good job.
