Please make a video about the bad conditions localizers have to face. A good friend of mine and I are about to work for video game and manga localization companies respectively, but there are a few issues. 1. Localizers sometimes have worse crunch than developers. If the development of the video game itself is in trouble, companies at least sometimes change the deadline. Try to explain to those aholes, that a localization needs more time. Especially if they resend you half the game post-last minute, with the reason, that they had "to change a few things". 2. Localizers are often just sent an excel table with no context whatsoever. And people still expect us to present a perfect translation. And actually get mad of us if we can't. 3. We are severely underpaid, despite us often having a higher education than those sitting at the top of publishing companies. And those are just the pinnacle of the iceberg. Yet, unlike developing studios, no one actually addresses our issues. So, it would be really cool, Steph, if you would actually do it. Thx for being a legend and keep up the good work ;)

That's one reason this is so weird - SEGA has put out a Genesis collection on basically every platform ever and they've generally been really quite good. Sadly, Sega has always been godawful at business decisions. In fact, it got so bad at one point that they were actually going to sell the company when their last gambit with the Dreamcast didn't pay off. If it wasn't for the incredibly generous donation of a wonderfully devoted investor (Who sadly passed away not long after that, he might have known he was passing on and wanted to do something good before he did.) we wouldn't have the cultural impact that Sega has even to this day. BUT, Sega clearly learned nothing from all those years ago and STILL makes awful business decisions, they just make them knowing they aren't losing money in the console making industry anymore. Also I just learned the investor was their CEO, Isao Okawa, and his will forgave Sega's Debt to him and returned his stock to the company. A moment of respect for a CEO doing something wonderful and inspiring for once.

I've had the displeasure of working with a company's marketing department on some projects. We had a product. It did a thing. If you bought it, you could do the thing. Marketing kept pushing us to make a "platinum" version. But there's one feature. Just one. You get it and you pay us money or you don't get it and you don't pay us money. It was explained to me that this is taught as gospel in MBA programs. There *have* to be tiers. There are enough people -- in both business and entertainment markets -- who are so desperate to be better that other people that they will pay ridiculous fuckwads of money to be told they're elite by the products they buy. They're so twisted in the head that they *will not buy a product at all* if they can't have a premium. And they want more premiums. If you advertise "bronze", most people will assume that there are goign to be "silver" and "gold" tiers. That makes sense because no one wants bronze anyway. It exists because "not quite good enough" needs a brand associated with it. But nowadays, if you have regular and "gold", the people who buy the gold will start asking "When is platinum coming out?" If you have platinum, they'll ask "What's going to be in the Diamond tier?" Bombay Gin has this problem. Bombay Emerald is a fucking fantastic gin. But people assume that there has to be "Diamond". You wouldn't have emerald without diamond. It makes no sense! So yeah. These extra tiers of stupid shit aren't for you or me. The people who have to feel elite will get pissy and cry themselves to sleep unless they can PAY MORE MONEY and get things other people don't have. Marketing. NOT EVEN ONCE.

This fiasco makes me glad I still have _Sonic Mega Collection_ in my Gamecube library. That being said, compared to most retro titles, _Mega Collection_ seems pretty untouched by retro-scalpers. I presume they're not as interested in re-release compilations than they are the original cartridges. If you've still got a working Gamecube or Wii, I'd highly recommend SMC!

I think most of the GC games that have skyrocketed in price lately are the first-party Nintendo exclusives, as they’re the most sought after GC titles for collectors as you can’t get them anywhere else. Especially the ones that, like Paper Mario, have become cult-classics that receive no end of praise. For example, CeX (a chain of second-hand electronics shops in the UK) are selling Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for £115. I managed to get a copy five years ago for £50 and even that felt like too much. Meanwhile Chibi Robo will set you back £190.

'Remastered' or not seems like a rather small collection compared to the 2 collections made all the way back in the PS2/Gamecube era. Specifically Sonic Gems Collection (which had CD) and Sonic Mega Collection Plus (which had 1-3) alongside a lot more.

It's worth noting that aside from the full port of Sonic R (and possibly CD, not sure) on Gems collection, both of those releases were just emulation, and not very good emulation at that. They didn't even fix the speed in PAL regions. Playing all 4 of these games in widescreen with no channel mixing issues and full character selection as well as bonus modes *does* warrant a new substantial release. And that's where my defense ends, because to add DLC and pre-order bonuses to 30 year old games is bloody pathetic.

Another thing about this collection is that even at the base price, $40 is pretty damn expensive for a pack of three Genesis games, a Sega CD game and some basic additional content. They definitely could have added more value by including Knuckle's Chaotix and the Game Gear/Master System games but going off of that pre-order chart, clearly creating a collection that was a good value wasn't their priority.

In comments about this across the web, here included, I keep seeing people say "It's just 5 extra dollars!", but that's not really the point of it, lol! -They have a really weird list of perks as most are pretty pointless or unlockable through regular play. But being "just 5" more, it's certainly not breaking the bank either so I don't see too much extra profit to be made from it. -Even the originals contained the soundtracks via the "sound test". -All the overlaps of the list are needlessly confusing. They could've just had one edition at $45 and been done with it as no one would've known they were even considering this. -Multiple editions of a digital game make it so even collectors won't bother to get all of them as there's nothing to display in a collection. So yeah, it's extremely befuddling.

Hasn't Sonic already gotten a better compilation rerelease than this? Sonic Jam, I think it was? Even came with a fun little 3D hub world to muck about in. Sure, the original games might not have been polished up in any way, but if this is the price we have to pay for some basic improvements like, say, widescreen, then I want no part of it. Edit: based on other comments here, there are _numerous_ Sonic compilations out there that give you more bang for your buck

“Why can’t Sega stick to a winning idea?” Well if we don’t get a Shadow the Hedgehog 2 or an uncensored/uncut remaster of the original for PC & Switch with JP voice toggle & Windii Gitlord’s subs for it to match, official Dreamcast emulations with nothing broken or removed of the two Adventure games ala the Dreamcast Conversion mod with the same JP voices & Windii subs as default, and an official endorsement of the excellent Sonic P-06 (a fixed remake of sonic 2006) for both PC & all consoles, then there’s no hope of them sticking to any good ideas besides those I listed above either.

These roms in particular are all the Christian whitehead works which had always been available on phones but not have seen console releases since forever. They are the most definitive versions of the classic series out there and people have wanted them on consoles but now sega has a bunch of monkey paw restrictions on them between the stuff on the graph and the PC release being DENUVO’d again just like sonic Mania

Something being a collectible/score booster/extra lives in a game series doesn't mean they have to be used as currency. So if the only games that exist to you are the ones you (Sega) are currently farting out (I don't think any of those use rings as currency but I don't know that much about them) you might consider using something generic.

Or you could just get these games on Android; this package looks like they just ported those versions which were made by Christian Whitehead, the developer of Sonic Mania, so yeah, they're pretty darn good, but also are actually far cheaper to get on Android. Heck, you can play Sonic 3 A.I.R. on your PC or an Android phone and it only needs the Sonic 3 ROM bought from Steam. Also this is an Epic exclusive on PC with Denuvo DRM, so fuck off Sega.
