Minor thing about Bubsy 3D's release. Accolade spend a lot of money on the game and were on the verge of bankruptcy, so delaying the game further was out of the question. They had to release the game and try and recoup their loses. Also, the gameplay was modeled after Jumping Flash, a first-person 3D platformer, as well as the first true 3D platformer, which sort of set the standard for that gameplay style until Super Mario 64 came along.

You ain't too far off on the remark that Woolies Strikes Back feels like a generic platformer with a Bubsy skin spat all over it, because this is heavily built off of one of the developers' previous games, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams. Put the two side by side and you'll notice the strong similarities. And given that you did point out that Paws of Fire was made by the Bit.Trip Runner people, it's safe to assume that the IP holders at the time employed the following strategy: approach indie developers to redo the same games they already made but with a Bubsy skin. It's pretty sad, honestly. I refuse to believe there were any genuine intentions behind this revival, any attempt to salvage this character from his infamous legacy. Otherwise, they would've put the money and effort to actually design a new game from scratch.

Gonna drop a hot take and say that Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is better than Sonic Forces. Sure, Forces is a lot more exciting, but relatively. In the grand scheme of things, it's a letdown when it comes to fanservice and execution. At least TWSB has no hype risking it. After all, a 5/10 Bubsy game is superior than a 6/10 Sonic game like Forces.
