I guess I should have put this in the video itself but it seems I forgot. Just a reminder though, I only take sponsorships for games that I can honestly recommend, and only under the condition that I can be completely honest about them. For every sponsorship you see, there are literally dozens if not HUNDREDS that were turned down. I genuinely had a blast with Sonic Superstars, which is why I accepted the sponsorship. I’ve seen people say genuinely awful and deplorable things about you because of a simple advertisement! There is a seriously toxic culture surrounding ads on KZbin, which is honestly very gross. KZbinrs aren’t massive corporations, they are individuals and occasionally a small group of editors. It is honestly shocking to see such a negative outcry for something so innocuous. Apparently, they changed Fang's name to "Fang the Hunter" for this game. The prequel comic had him refer to his previous names as fake names, with this one likely being fake as well. Hopefully they make this a running gag instead of just changing his name for this game.

Funny that you say that in this paritcular video, I would agree if you posted this on 99% of his other videos, but, if you really know his channel you should notice that is is just a sponsored video. He didn't tell anything negative about the game, no nitpicking, it only has 11 minutes, it came on time and not 9 months later, this is not a genuine Arlo review, he did this because he was paid to. I hope that this doesn't become a standard in the future, that would be really unfortunate, since Arlo is one of the best game reviewers in the world.

I wasn’t going to go day one with this game, but your video pushed me over the edge. I used the link and picked up a copy. It really is great. I feel like Superstars is Sonic’s “New Super Mario Bros.” moment. They really did get the feel of the Genesis games right, with enough new stuff going on to make it feel fresh without diluting what I love about Classic Sonic. I understand the multiplayer doesn’t work well but frankly I’m never gonna touch it. I’m all about the main campaign and I will be fine playing that solo. One hour in, it’s a blast.

I don’t know if I’m just being cynical but this entire video feels like one big ad read. You rarely criticise the game in it, and when you do it’s always accompanied by a qualifier saying it’s not “that important”. So what is this your favourite game of the year? The script is also really boring, just going through the motions. Graphics, check, bosses, check, abilities, check. But no actually critical analysis of the game or any of its design. Even the title of the video. That doesn’t sum it up at all! You’d think that given the title the video would be about, well, nostalgia or how Superstars captures the magic of the original games, but no. It’s very telling when there’s no “this is sponsored but they let me say what I really think” clarifier. It’s not even called a review, this is literally just an ad presented as being your own personal opinions; incredibly manipulative and disingenuous. I’m guessing you have a lot of younger people watching these videos who will have no idea that these amazing things you’re saying about the game don’t come from a place of passion. I know financial stuff can be troubling but you genuinely lost a lot of my respect by making this video.

From what I played of this game's demo at PAX, one thing I kinda liked that this 'first impressions' didn't even seem to notice - is that whether you speed through the level or take your time exploring for secrets or something, it's still rewarding either way. This game looked good to me, all the way to the point I saw the Steam Reviews mixed... and found out why. Most of them is not because the game is particularly bad "though the price is a bit steep", but because the game apparently launched performance issues due to both Full Always-Online Denuvo DRM and an Epic Games Account requirement on launch & without warning before offical sales went live. That would do it.

@@SilverSpireZ Sadly on PC a lot of companies do this due to worries of loosing sales to piracy, which in cases like GTA 4. The Anti-Piracy can be way too invasive to the point the pirates are having a better experience then the one actually buying the game. Denuvo is a bad offender as well, people will skip or wait for games just because of Denuvo because of how poorly implemented and invasive it can be. Consoles luckily don't have this issue. Edit: In the way of GTA 4, until you were able to use your disk key on Rockstars new launcher, you almost had to pirate with a no-cd crack just to get the game to work due to Sec-U-Rom.

I don't feel like Arlo was being 100% honest with this video and it unsettles me I have so much trust in Arlo. He's walking the line between cherrypicking a few good things to talk about and deliberately misleading by skipping anything negative. I've heard Arlo complain about the tiniest things. I'm not trying to imply this was some awful game or that Arlo couldn't have possibly had fun with it. I really think Arlo does an amazing job of describing video games in great detail. This was a super cute video, about a fun video game. It just felt like if it wasn't sponsored, Arlo would have delivered a longer form video delving into a lot more detail. As it stands, it just feels like Arlo suggesting that a lot of folks could have fun with a brand new sonic game. Took me a while too but managed to get his patterns down and know when to attack and how. Definitely hardest fight I ever remember having in a sonic game so it was a welcome challenge, the lack of checkpoints between phases definitely made it tedious but it added to the challenge imo.

I don't know if it's because Oshima worked on this, and I've got nostalgia goggles from my chilhood in the early '90s wrapped on tightly or not, but so far I'm impressed by what the game has offered. The aesthetics and level design scream Sonic CD, it has some solid, challenging boss fights, Knack battles are satisfying, all the songs in the OST are pleasing in different ways. I guess the only complaint I have is the emerald levels are a bit too stale and easy. But in a series where these stages are known for being brutally unfair, and so easy to miss, it's nice that I get to relax and just explore at my leisure without being paranoid about missing something and getting the bad ending. Some emerald powers feel superfluous, and maybe the physics are a bit more stiff than classic, but I feel the abilities do bridge the gap and make up for any slack in movement. I guess I would say the momentum needs work. Even as someone who has always favored Ninty/Mario, I think reviewers are being too harsh. I mean this is the first decent Sonic title we've gotten from Sonic Team in a while. Maybe we all got a bit spoiled from Mania. Rock on Sonic. You're awesome.

Not saying he doesn’t have integrity, this video could be 100% his opinion. But there’s a pretty good chance sega didn’t approve negative points in the video or he felt pressured to be favourable to a sponsor.

It's interesting to see people's reactions to this game. I haven't played a Sonic game in years, but I thought that after Frontiers and the movies people would be more or less positive towards it, but discussions of this game seems very split and divise, and full of distrust towards those who like the game. I'm a Nintendo boy so I don't know if something happened among the SEGA-squad to sour them on Sonic, but it's still interesting to see sucg division and have no idea where it's coming from. At times it feels like most of it is due to stuff like pricing of this game and the Denuvo DRM rather than the game itself.

I'm surprised that Arlo didn't make mention of the late game levels, where the level design falls apart, and the late game bosses, where they're punishing to absurd degrees. Not hard, just punishing. I don't get why they designed most of the bosses in a fun way but designed the last few bosses to waste lots of time only to force you into a position you inevitably can't avoid taking a death in. Basically it's a fun game for the first two thirds. Oh, but if you do get through the main story, there's a delightful surprise.
