Sonic the Hedgehog 100% - Marble Zone, Act 3

In the 100% series, I try to collect every single (possible) extra life, ring, and in the case of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 onwards, checkpoint.
One extra life monitor in MZ3; one more can be earned from the 102 rings available in the level, 72 of which are loose.

My main problem with this level is towards the end because of spikes, not because I can't live with 1 ring but because the animation of Sonic being injured throw him away in the lava.

He started with 15, he got one from the hidden place and other from 100 coins. I am trying this level rn in the mobile version and I am a total disaster. I'd say the movements are lame in the mobile, but I'm just bad at it too.

Noticed that you play it the way I play it-- that shortcut would ordinarily be appealing, if not for the dangerous spike trap blocking it (to which I suffered, IMO, the most damaging form of death in the Sonic universe when I was learning how to play [being under it with no shield and a lot of rings]); I didn't get out from under in time, and when that thing came down, I heard two sound effects at the same time (loss of rings and death throw), and saw two things at the same time (rings in a huge cluster behind me, and my death throw sprite). Basically, when I heard and saw those things in quick succession, I was just plain shocked beyond belief that a spike trap could do all that damage; this is why, when I play now, I try to avoid that area as much as possible, and go around the long way and eventually safely come out on the other side of it (I won't get a time bonus, because of how complex the level is, but when you've got spike traps that can deal out that much damage [I also suffered this fate to the one before the hidden room], it makes you very hesitant to take chances). However, I also was under them when I had a shield on, and that mitigated the effects some, as with a shield on, all I saw was my death throw sprite; that said, on this level, when you're dealing with these spike traps, either go around the long way, or have a shield on.

@ShadowSonic64 Thanks! It looks like I have a lot to live up to. I take a lot of chances because I've played this so many times that I get bored if I don't. Labyrinth Zone is much more fun when it comes to taking chances, though.

Firstly, they're rings. Secondly, I know for a fact that there are only 72 loose rings as collecting them all triggers a "perfect" in the game's memory. I'm fairly sure there are only three ring boxes. If you think there are more, feel free to post a video response. Thanks for the subscription, but it's unlikely I'll be able to continue this series as I have other things occupying my time nowadays. I'm still posting videos occasionally, though.

You missed an extra life in this level! At 2:49 there's a secret tunnel past the spike trap with a life at the end of the tunnel :)

@littlefrank103 Yeah, there aren't many in Marble Zone at all. In fact, I think Act 3 has fewer rings than any Act of any of the Mega Drive games (bar Final Zone and Sonic 2 Death Egg Zone, for obvious reasons, and Hidden Palace Zone).

I figured out how to roll now (I’m playing on mobile with a Bluetooth controller.) Is there a way to kill the slug guys? All the other creatures I can get when I’m in a ball. this guy is a pro don't imitate him here's a tip from me when you jump through those things also slightly move the joystick left a very little bit then jump again to the platform and repeat the same left process so you don't get poked through the spikes then you can defeat eggman(robotnick) and it super easy this time just like before there's a marble zone act 3 walkthrough you can watch that :)
