Thanks for the memories, man. Remember, back in the day we had no idea of the boss we were to confront. He often killed us so many times that we would lose all our lives and continues so that we would have start again, only to forget all you've learned the 1st encounter. Perhaps you would narrowly defeat a boss only to be left with no lives the next level, and you would scrimp and save every little ring in the next level to build it up again. These bosses were more than what they are.

In case if you want to know the result of how many numbers, there you go; You fight Robotnik 8 times, and there are 6 sub bosses, and so the total boss fights are 14. Yup, Sonic 3 has the most boss fights of all retro Sonic games.

IMHO, Sonic 3 was the best out of all the original Sonic game line up. The prizes, bosses, music choices, extended options to unlock. Overall, it was fun. The challenging levels were fun. I realize the previous Sonic wasn't all that fun, kind of a drag, boring, unnecessarily complicated and challenging(bonus zones, final bosses).

No Damage runs generally double as stealth brags. Thus, taking damage actually feels more realistic because not only does it showcase a typical player's potential struggle, it also showcases how threatening the boss can be. And unlike No-Damage runs, victory isnt guranteed. This thus makes for more exciting battles. My $0.02.

Never liked the Lock-On version with & Knuckles because it gets rid of so many epic moments in the base game. The final boss fights begins with the Ball Shooter, the last time you work together with Tails to stop Robotnik. Tails cant follow you due to the Egg-O-Matic's one-seat limitation, so it's all up to you to face Knuckles for the last time and approach the end arena, where Robotnik attacks in the Beam Rocket. Just when you thought you finally beat him, the boss theme ominously doesnt seem to stop as he flies off. The music cuts off, the screens turns dark(as you approach the stratosphere), the music starts ominously as Robotnik swoops in with a brand new machine, immediately attacking. All this while the timer slowly approaches that dreaded 10 minute mark. As you make the final hit, the music continues on as the arena explodes around you, causing a chain reaction that separates the areana from the heavily damages the Death Egg which can be seen falling down on the horizon. The music then triumphantly changes to an orchestral version of the victory theme as it explodes, and Sonic poses, signifying the end and you, the player breath sighs of both relief and triumphant victory. You dont get these feelings with the Lock-On because aside from removing Big Arm, you awkwardly fall towards the ground alongside the non-exploding Death Egg while the Launch Base theme plays unfittingly.
