With the reveal that Sonic 4 was gonna be a trilogy, the fact that Sonic went at it alone in Episode I (with a little help from Tails) and Tails accompanying him in this meant that had Episode III been made, it could've probably brought Knuckles back in the fold with Knuckles once again getting tricked by Eggman, resulting in the Master Emerald getting stolen (again) to power back up the Death Egg Mk II like he did with the original Death Egg. Since the Special Stages in Episodes I and II were much like Sonic 1 and 2 respectively, the Blue Sphere could've also been brought back for Episode III. Just my guess as to how Episode III could've went out had it been made. Edit: Funnily enough, the Blue Sphere made its return in Mania, albeit as one of the bonus stages.

Granted this is assuming that the original Good Ending for Ep.II had the Death Egg mk.II destroyed and Little Planet freed; now if by some chance they continued Ep.III with the ending we got in Ep.II, i could totally be down with Eggman shooting for the Master Emerald to give the mk.II a hard reboot, using both the Master Emerald and Little Planet as it's power sources.

Uzoma Iwuagwu correction, mania may have taken place BEFORE the events of Sonic 4 episode 1 and thus isn’t even hinted at in Mania’s elevator scene or gameplay. (The elevator which sonic and co are in in the intro movie has the letter/numbers 1,2,3, K on it hinting as to where it falls in the classic timeline)

I am kinda disturbed at the fact that when metal sonic died, both tails and sonic just looked silent. As if they tought he definitely deserved it. And just seconds after the death of metal sonic, the cheerful "Act Cleared!" music came along with the screen. I know he was bad and all, but inside, he always tought that HE was the real sonic, and he was fighting with METAL SONIC. Eggman lied to MS, so he died a painful death and nobody mourned him because all of his life, he did what he tought it was right. Damn SEGA, you are dark.

I don't know why so many people complain. This particular game feels close to the original SEGA games. It's better than Episode 1, imo, and it's much, *much*, better than that absolutely horrible 3D game of 2006 (I believe nothing worse has ever happened to Sonic). I also like that Tails here seems more included. I liked him as a companion in the old games, but he never used to be particularly useful for the gameplay.

Without sounding like a typical whiney baby...sonic 4 is too much of the same at a lesser quality. Technically the graphics and picture quality of the game are better than the original games but it's design and concepts are uninspiring and rehashed (almost every level has been done before in Sonic 1, 2, and 3&K). The controls aren't even close. The level design and enemy placement lack intelligence. The music is forgettable (except sky fortress act 2 and 3). People expected something to happen like Mega Man 9 and 10 where it's identical in every way to the originals but there are new levels and new ideas at the same time. Sonic 4 wouldn't get as much hate as it does if it wasn't called "Sonic 4" but since it's called "Sonic 4" and Sega alluded to it being a direct sequel, it should have at least been on the same level and quality as those old crusty dusty 20+ year old games...but its not.

+Meric COM (MericTheGamer) It's mainly due to the name "Sonic 4". They claimed Episode 1 would be a continuation of the classic trilogy of games, but it is nothing more than a complete nostalgia rehash of the first two Sonic games. Episode 2 is miles better but still carries over some of the same problems as well as introducing its own. I found both Sonic 4 Episodes ok, but they don't deserve to be called Sonic 4; they were originally going to be called Sonic 1 HD and Sonic 2 HD, which would've been fine and nowhere near as many people would be hating these games as much. But SEGA made a decision to stick the number 4 on it to help market and sell the games better.

Musicapolis Zone 3. Barista Badlands Zone 4. Aquatic World Zone 5. Sunset Canopy Zone 6. Grim Temple Zone 7. Modem Coaster Zone 8. Death Egg mkII Zone (EX) The True Finale! The true finale requires that you get the 7 Super Emeralds to become Hyper Sonic/Knuckles Oh & there'll be a tutorial stage for both charaters that has either a Knuckles boss, or a Sonic boss thats actually easy as they'll take 3 hits and the fact that they wont hurt you! The Special Stages are Entered the same way as sonic 3&K & Mania and the Special Stages are the Knuckles Chaotix ones.

+BulgarianPsychopath I think a lot of the hate towards the Sonic 4 games is due to their names and being called "Sonic 4" as a tactic to help sell the game a lot better. It was a mixed execution; while it sold well, people got angry cos they expected new things, rather than total nostalgia rehashing that Episode 1 was full of. I'm very neutral with the games; 1 was fine, 2 has a much better presentation, but the level design (in terms of structure and layout) in both games haven't aged well already and I was pretty bored rather quickly. If the Sonic 4 games were just simply named Sonic 1 HD and Sonic 2 HD, as their own thing, nowhere near as many people would be upset with them. And here we are, four years since Episode II's release and there's no more to come out of it.

well there are varios fators to it, the sonic genesis trilogy was something that evolved with each new game from new moves and items to new characters, engagin music a interesting enemies to fight, here is just lazy level desing that relies on bumpers and speed booster to make a sence of speed, no new enemies and the allready existing ones have the IA of a freking goomba, the music is so repetitive that turns anoying instead of being emembered all the time just look at this one

Episode 1 is like a remastared version of the first two versions for Genesis. Episode 2 has a few new tricks and better gameplay in general. The music on both was ok, it had a few memorable tracks. I'm not being fan-boy here, I'm saying that the game is not bad, but in fact good . I just hate when people are criticising way too much and not just enjoying the game.
