9:37 The extra polygons in Sonic's gloves are for when he bends his wrists. It wasn't something that he did all that much until this game, and with the XBox and PS3 being more powerful than the Wii, the polygons would have been more noticeable in animation if they had left them out like in the Wii version of Unleashed or, say, Sonic Colors.

ASleuOfThings Not quite, but it does share a good few similarities for the most part. It would've been good to have compared the Sonic and Shadow models with their Heroes counterparts. Shadow's model even has swappable hands in this game for gun holding and swordsmanship :). Source: I do reverse engineering of Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog, I've even brought in custom models into the game.

Sorry, but your timeline's a little wonky here. I'm sure you've already gotten this a lot, but Sonic Adventure DX did not come out "only two years after Sonic adventure". It came out quite a few years later in 2003. The first Sonic remake for the Gamecube was Sonic Adventure 2: Battle which came out in 2001, and used the same model as the Dreamcast version. I remember being very psyched since it was the first time Sonic appeared on a Nintendo console. Sonic Adventure DX: on the other hand was another few years after that. That's why it has so many (out-of-place) references to the Sonic X anime, which also came out in 2003 and was airing at the time. If Sonic Adventure DX had come out in 2000, that means it would've come out before the Gamecube.

Also SA2: Battle does not have the same models, its actually mixed which models are better as SA2: Battle has higher Poly models, but several lighting bugs in the Battle version and several other issues such as inconsistencies and broken shadows in cutscenes have made the consensus that SA2's models, while slightly lower poly, are better in cutscenes and gameplay, lighting wise, and lighting means a lot.

What is the point of the Tris / Faces count if they're always gonna be the same? Even if you find a model with quads, wouldn't you just change tris to quads? :P The Sonic Jam model uses quads as well but it says tris so...

The reason is simple: when you import a model into a game engine they triangulate the model to make calculations more easily since all gpu's use tris calculations, when modelling the modellers don't use tris because triangles are unpredctiable in nature and can cause bad deformations in areas like mouth, arms, legs, hands and also it doesn't shade well. the reason Why all models displayed in this series are all triangulated is because they are ripped directly from the engine, the actual models used in animation are not triangulated.

The models for the spiky blue eulipotyphla in Jam and 3D Blast are very similar to but are higher poly than the Sonic R model, as they have a more rounded face and torso, more polygons in the shoes and mittens for hands kinda like the SA1 model just flatter and without any textures
