my speculation for those brick areas in labyrnith zone is that was planned for open areas without water so Sonic could breathe. they were probably taken out because the devs couldn't figure a way to properly work those sections in with how the water was coded. if i remember right, that's where air bubble locations were ultimately placed

I think that the Devs are wrong. I mean sonic 1 isn't REALLY that brutal with the difficulty. But if you game over you go all the way back to the beginning. I think they should've let that in or at least put a limit to it.

Fun fact:The Giant green hill ball remains unused in the Mobile port of Sonic 1 and can be spawned in using the debug mode...but theres a BIG difference in the mobile version:The giant ball actually works as intended and isn't that glitchy. The ball rolls around down slopes and when you stand on it...and it can crush badniks and crush you too! Meaning these was made more dangerous
