The hate it got from trying something different practically scared them into avoiding making games like this. Colors and Generations did the same gameplay style, pretty well I might add. People give this game so much crap for the night time stages, but I really don't have a problem with them. Sega tried something new, and maybe it didn't resonate well with fans, but that's no reason for people to hate the entire game. The daytime stages were exactly what a modern Sonic game needed, and you can't argue, the cutscenes we're GORGEOUS, even on the Wii. It feels like so many games these days would feel so much better if people didn't just hate new concepts for being new. Oh, and one more thing. I miss Jason.

Sonic 06 is so clear. But really though, people may clown on it because it was broken and the weird kiss, but aside from that, it has by far the most passion put into it of any Sonic game. Sonic Unleashed is good, but it doesn't really do anything meaningfully new. The only Sonic characters they brought back was Tails and Amy. Sonic 06, on the other hand, is essentially Sonic Adventure 3. A deeper narrative, balancing multiple character arcs, introducing a brand new interesting character with their own storyline, arguably the best performances in the series with lines that sound natural(unironically badass ngl: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYHGm6eAo7qnhJI ), and you can clearly tell that they poured their heart into the animation and voice acting of the characters. I mean, Eggman and Sonic don't have that weird delivery they seem to get in like every game post-06: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3_Uin2If9-notU It just sucks because you can tell they put every ounce of passion they had into this game. I like to imagine what it would be like if they had only delayed it one or two more years, instead of trying to cram it into the anniversary deadline. Fortunately, I don't have to, because there has been a project in the works that is set out to fix 06. And the craziest thing is, the gameplay is actually really good now. He finished Sonic and Shadow's levels, and by the end of the year, hopefully Silver's as well. Can we just take a second to appreciate how fucking good the opening cinematic is It opens on a shot of earth with this dreamlike almost ethereal music is the backround as it slowly pans up to reveal this massive Armada helmed by who else but eggman As he laughs knowing what he's about to do then sonic shows up right infront of some fire, sirens blaring in the backround eggman sends out dozens of robots trying to stop Sonic he easily blazes through all of them but eggman prepared with his own giant mech-suit filled to the brim with all of his strongest weapons sonic realizes he can't take him head on so he dodges eggman's shower of bullets and rockets Just as he's about to get away eggman unleashes (heh) his grapple arm the fingers sprouting from the barrels of his machine gun sonic looks behind him and through the rocket explosions the giant hand grabs sonic he can't escape so he in a last ditch effort he becomes Super Sonic eggman not fully understanding what he's doing covers sonic with the mechs second hand then sonic blasts the mechs arms clean off Eggman realizes what's happening and bails his egg-o-matic detaches from the mech suit and crashes through the corridor sonic knows he can easily get eggman right now but he's a showoff and he makes scrap metal out of the surrounding ships finally chasing after eggman easily catching up to him eggman now on his knees begs sonic for mercy but it's an act as he gets Sonic right were he wants him with the press of a button he captures sonic and sucks the energy out of the chaos emeralds turning them grey He then breaks the earth apart showing us that the ship they are on is just a giant Lazer, Gaia emerges from the broken planet mimicking Sonic's movements eggman is fascinated showing that he doesn't fully know Gaia and their capabilities Gaia's negotiate energy turns sonic into the Were-hog opening the airlock eggman grants sonic a farewell as he in flung back down to earth Even that doesn't do this scene justice it captures sonic and eggman's personality so well it's gives us a great idea of what this games about and just so much more

This just became my new favorite Sonic game. One, it knows when to make you laugh and when to violently tear out your heartstrings. (God I almost cried at the end) Two, The graphics, character design, and sound design are just, YES! And three, I love the Werehog mechanics! What can I say, I like werewolves and any other were-creature. (I'm not a furry, I just like mythological creatures) Plus, I like how it utilizes the stretch ability in a way that it feels like you always know which way to go. The levels are also very open so you can basically take any path and end up where you need to go. Also, THE FREAKING MUSIC IS AWESOME!! (I'm catching up on all the Sonic games I don't know jack squat about. Like this or Sonic Generations)

This game is oozing with passion and charm. It's clear that SEGA wanted to apologise fans for Sonic '06 and Sonic Genesis. The graphics are excellent, the gameplay is so much fun, the soundtrack is awesome and the world feels huge and super cool. And then there is the cutscenes! WOO BOY! We have come a *LONG* way since Sonic Adventure 1, because these cutscenes are incredible!

@azariacba I'm not saying SA1's cutscenes are 100% garbage. The lip syncing, animation, dialog and sound editing is laughably poor. But the voice acting is pretty good. Also, for something released early in the Dreamcast life cycle and the fact it was released at a time were voice acting wasn't common in video games, the cutscenes could have been much worse.

Ryans Pad this would be an amazing game if the glitches and bugs were fixed. Other than that, the ps3/xbox360 version is far better than the Wii/ps2 version. Firstly, it has better graphics, the gameplay isn't made for a 3 year old and the level design is just superior compared to the ps2/Wii game.

I think we can all agree we want a Sonic game with as much love put into it as Unleashed did. Sonic team put their heart and soul into this one game and then we hated on it. Damn this was some good sonic game. THIS WAS A GREAT SONIC GAME! I remember playing this on my Wii when I was 13 years old, and I miss this game so much. For a 2008 game, the graphics are great and the opening cutscene is perfect, the daytime levels are so good and fun, the nighttime levels are good too, tbh. I dunno why many people hate it, and the design of the characters looks so surreal and great, also, the music is so good, I even sang it at our school in the music subject. Hope they remake this game for the switch. Btw I miss jason. I don't hate Roger as sonic but I think Jason as sonic is better for a 15 year old teen

I’ve always thought unleashed was one of the best sonic games ever. It has such good replay value and I keep coming back to play it. The graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay is fun, it’s challenging, it gives you a good idea of what’s to come on each stage and it’s generally just an amazing game overall. Sonic Unleashed was also one of the first Sonic games I played as a kid. The nostalgia of the feeling when I first saw that opening cutscene always makes me tear up. Unleashed will forever and always remain in my top 3!

I used to play this game often at my cousin's housd when I was 7 or 8 years old, I didn't understand the lore at all but I *loved* Sonic.
