It's very clear to me that the big difference between Sonic Utopia and other 3D Sega games, besides the open world itself, is the mechanics and the game. It manages to emulate the 2D Sonics mechanics much more faithfully and is far superior to the various mechanics proposed by Sega in the 3D Sonic games.
