So Sonic Jr isnt actually Sonic's son, he is Sonic from the past. His official name is Classic Sonic. The reason for him being there is because the game has some time travel stuff, and the game itself is supposed to celebrate some of Sonic's more iconic stages/bosses. This new version of the game also added a whole Shadow campaign to celebrate Shadow's past too

It used to be separate then retcon into same timeline as ian flynn confirm it in 4th Nov 2022 Bumblekast, especially when tails explain what happened in SXS generations by erasing the word space from the OG "traveling through time and space" cutscene.

@@codebracker Basically, it was just Sonic from the past in Generations, became "Sonic from another dimension" in Forces and then he came back into being just "Sonic from the past" for a good while now, with the explanation to fill the gap created by Forces that Tails calling him "Sonic from another dimension" in Forces was because: time, just like space, is a different "dimension" in reality, so time travelling could also be considered "travelling through dimensions" Basically... think as if Silver the Hedgehog could also be considered someone from "another dimension" since he comes from 200 years in the future to Sonic's time period so he can save his future or sometimes just enjoy the present with his friends, he is coming to a time period that is not his own with the help of Time Travel, Classic Sonic would be "travelling through dimensions" in Gens and Forces more closely to how Silver does it (coming from another period) instead of how Blaze does it (coming from another dimension) I actually like more him being from the past like it always has been

@@mio3199 The thing is that in OG Gens he was indeed from the past, then Forces came around and messed it up saying he was from another dimension, and later it was fixed for Classic to be from the past again The funny part is that I'm almost pretty sure in the JP script for Forces Tails calls Classic Sonic "Sonic from another world" which I think, however, I'm no professional in japanese, in japanese, calling him like that can open up for 2 interpretations, that he comes from another dimension, like in the english dub of Forces, or that he just comes from the past, which would be more in line with the original Generations I'm glad they fixed that and reverted Classic Sonic back into just being Sonic from the past, it makes sense since Classic Sonic is indeed the Sonic from the 90s, and I think it avoids confusion with the whole 2 timelines and continuities thingy where the new Classic games are in a separate timeline from the modern games from SA1-Frontiers and even more that will probably continue to release

Sonic Generations is a remaster of the 2011 game where Sonic teams up with his younger self, referred to as Classic Sonic, where they travel to different points in time in order to restore the timeline. Shadow Generations takes place at the same time as Sonic Generations, and it's the new campaign so that's why it's getting more promotion. Both Shadow the Hedgehog and Rouge the Bat were introduced in Sonic Adventure 2 while that robot (named E-123 Omega) was introduced in Sonic Heroes. Together, all three are referred to as Team Dark. Black Doom is the main villain of Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) who seems to have survived by that larva (Death Leech) that remained on the ARK due to his hivemind race.

21:23 Haha ok, so "Sonic Jr." is supposed to be "Classic Sonic", the Sonic that you play as in the 2D games (namely the ones from 1991 to 1997). The "older" looking Sonic is "Modern Sonic" the one you play as in the 3D games (entries from 1998 - current day). This game is a remaster of Sonic Generations, which came out back in 2011 as a celebration for Sonic's 20th anniversary. The game takes 2D and 3D stages from previous Sonic entries and puts a different twist on many of them, or lets you play as Modern or Classic Sonic in stages that aren't from their respective era of games.

The girl, Maria, is Eggman's cousin. She suffered from a terminal illness that made her unable to leave the place of her birth and go down to Earth. To save Maria, Gerald worked on Project Shadow in hopes of finding a cure for her. Gerald's research produced Shadow the Hedgehog, with whom Maria became close friends. When G.U.N. later shut down the ARK, Maria was killed by a G.U.N. Soldier while trying to assist Shadow in his escape from the colony. Her passing had a major impact on Shadow's psyche and proved to be an event that would strongly influence the world's fate in the following decades. 6:41 No. In Sonic Adventure 2, the game where Shadow debuted, Eggman used the Ark's eclipse cannon to blow up part of the moon as a demonstration of his "conquer the world" scheme in the game at Shadow's suggestion. The kid, Abe, grows up to be the G.U.N. Commander in the Shadow the Hedgehog game. And it's implied that he was so traumatized by witnessing Black Doom assisting Shadow's creation that he leaked this information to G.U.N. himself, which led to the raid that killed Maria, who he saw as an older sister. In the game's secret Expert Mode, he apologizes to Shadow over the com radio for his actions and even invites him over for dinner to meet his family. And given how Shadow is revealed to be a GUN agent starting with the next game, it's not hard to imagine the Commander helped make it possible. Dr. Eggman canonically blew up the moon during the events of Sonic Adventure 2, the same game where Shadow debuted. That's why the moon looks like that. Also, Death Battle's next video will actually be Bowser vs. Dr. Eggman, which is bound to be good. Also, the ending song is sung by Casey Lee Williams, who is also the lead singer for RWBY. So that makes two RWBY connections here. Sonic Generations' whole premise was to celebrate Sonic's 20th anniversary, hence the two Sonics (classic and modern for the 2d and 3d eras respectively), as well as time traveling to past stages. Sonic x Shadow Generations updates that for modern consoles while also introducing an entirely new campaign for Shadow, centered around his past.

15:08 Sonic Generations explored the concept of time, which brings us back to have both Modern and Classic Sonic playable. Now with Shadow, it brings us back to explore things that was never been talked about Shadow's past, hence, the name of the game being Sonic X Shadow Generations Rouge was also presented as a new character the same game as Shadow (in Sonic Adventure 2), that's why moving forward, they became very fond with each other, cause they respect themselves as Allies when they need it.

The Animation is Phenomenal in all sense of the word. If you ever decide you want to play the game yourselves I suggest doing a deep dive into the previous Sonic game stories, or at least Shadow's story if you'd just playing the Shadow side. Cause the Sonic timeline does branch off when they transitioned from 2D to 3D, that's why there are two Sonics

Originally, the game is about Sonic meeting his past self to save their friends along fighting their past enemies and rivals, to defeat a time monster. Now they are adding Shadow to the story of how he was in the game in his perspective. As he goes to his own past as he is confronts painful memories as he tries to move on forward on the future to leave the past behind him.

I can say the “Story of Shadow the Hedgehog” is the most broken storyline in Sonic History that you feel some sadness over his loss of Maria😩. Also I hope you two play the game or check any games that feature Shadow’s story in any media. By the way song during the third episode of Shadow’s mini series. The song creator is Casey Lee Williams aka the same artist who done RWBY’s OSTs. It’s surprising that her talents are still going strong after the shutting down of Rooster Teeth.

A sad thing about Maria's death is that it wasn't just a traumatic event for Shadow, it was traumatic for everyone that knew her. She was a truly pure-hearted person that everyone really liked.

To kind of explain some of the stuff happening here, there is a lot of time travel shegnanigans happening. Shadow's story is he is a biological weapon created by Eggman's grandfather Professor Gerald. Gerald intentionally wanted to make a cure for Maria's incredibly rare disease. The earth's atmophere actually hurts her a lot so thats why they have the space station. Black Doom, leader of a race of aliens called Black Arms, approached Gerald and forced him to make Black Doom a warrior. Thus, Shadow was made. Unfortunately GUN took notice of this and stormed the ark to rid of the evidence. Gerald was captured and executed in the chair you saw and Maria was shot after helping Shadow escape the ark. So now Shadow gets to see Maria and Gerald again because of the time travel stuff going on. That's also why there are two sonics lol so "Sonic Jr" is actually named Classic Sonic, who is sonic from the older retro titles

Like others have said, "Sonic Jr." is just Sonic from the 90s, who's referred to as Classic Sonic. Sonic Generations was a game from 2011 that celebrated Sonic's legacy by having his Classic and Modern self team up and play through familiar levels from Sonic's past. Sonic x Shadow Generations is a re-release of the game, but with a brand new Shadow campaign that's REALLY good. So yeah, since the Shadow stuff is the actual new content, it gets most of the focus in advertisements.

It'll show u his and explain to you his story more and playing the game will add more to his story. I highly recommend it. I would LOVE IT! Of course Ian is behind the writing to this amazing Prologue + Game. He's also the guy who helped write the Sonic IDW, and with how amazing that is, I'm not surprised he's behind the writing of this. I watched the Prologue Preview when it released, and I was sad to only see a minute of such an amazing Prologue. But once episode 1 released, I was amazed. At everything; The animation, writing, SEGA finally delving in Shadow and Maria's relationship, EMERL COMING BACK!! When episode 2 released, I was just as overjoyed--Omega and Rouge arrived, thus Team Dark is complete! And the heterochromia general finally has a canonical name! (Abraham Tower). Episode 3 was all feels---Shadow having premonitions of a future where Maria and him are on Earth together--An unreachable future, a future that never came to be. The flower field Shadow and Maria were in are called *Balloon Flowers,* and they represent *endless love* and the *desire for the return of a friend.* WHY IAN?! Seriously though, I'm so glad they finally made a game all about Shadow after 19 years (the last game was Shadow '05)!! Plus, it talked more about Maria's illness and how it effected her, as well as Shadow and Maria's time on the ARK. Plus, the SXSG's game ending....That broke me. Got the game last Friday (October 25th), and beat it on Saturday (October 26th). Took me a day to beat, when it took most people 4-5 hours...Lol. Anyways, as a 16 year old fan who's been a Sonic -addict- fan for a whole decade, (since I was 6) Shadow Generations exceeded all expectations--Thank you Ian! (Didn't play Sonic Generations since I already played that game in 2013 when I was 6-7)

One, I am glad y’all reacted to the game trailers too. Two, since you’re new to this, Sonic Generations is about a creature that tears through time and space and it sucks the life out of their world. So the “sonic jr” it actually past/classic Sonic. Both Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic team up to stop the creature. That all happened 2011. This time, it’s the same game but they also made it to where you can play in shadows perspective. And not to spoil and going based off the trailers, that starfish with an eye is Black Doom. Shadows creator. And he also takes part in what the monster is doing and Shadow has to stop him. During all that, he unlocks what you saw was Doom Powers like morph, wings, and surf. The context for the moon in pieces is that In sonic adventure 2(sega dreamcast/nintendo gamecube) TO MAKE A STATEMENT TO PLANET EARTH SO THAT G.U.N MILITARY WILL SUBMIT, Eggman basically highjacks the ark and blows up a huge portion of the moon and threatens to do the same with earth

Dark Beginnings is one of the best media we have ever gotten from the Sonic series, and it did such an OUTSTANDING job showcasing Shadow's character and lore. Gamewise, guys that's not "Sonic Jr.", it's Classic Sonic, as in Sonic from the past, because Sonic Generations involves time travel.

Also, glad you guys get to see and kind of learn about Rouge in these trailers. Rouge is a treasure hunter and loves shiny things, and is also an agent. In the older games and the anime, she was a rival for Knuckles since she loves treasure and shiny things, and of course with Knuckles main goal being to protect the master emerald and the emerald being a giant shiny treasure, they clashed a few times. Also while Knuckles strength are all in the fist, Rouge’s strength are in her kicks. Shes good though and is friends with the main cast

Dragon Ball is always the easy comparison to make with Sonic for me, Shadow is absolutely the Vegeta to Sonics Goku, although I'd say Shadow has always been more on the good side compared to Vegeta who had a long turnaround. I'm not an avid Sonic fan I mainly just experience it through my girlfriend who is obsessed with it, but Shadow is probably my favorite I just rly like characters like him, and God this short movie is just amazing the action choreography is phenomenal, portraying speed can be so hard and they did it so well, him catching the missile, turning it around and just letting go so it flies back, and then ZOOMING UP to it and picking it up again to just lob it at the ship is just so unnecessarily cool lol it's raw.
