the beauty of the "intro" guitar channeling and driving the beautiful dirty dangerous glamorous edgy urban romance of nyc in the 80s and then the orgasmic explosion of brave men run bursting over the the outro of intro, one of the greatest alt rock moments ever, thank you sonic youth for making our inner lives so exciting xxx

Daydream Nation is probably their best, its reputation is fully deserved. An amazing arc of songs that deserve to be heard in order but also amazing to hear individually (MOST of the tracks, at least). Hell, they're ALL pretty impressive in their own way, but as of today I'd rank 'em as 1. Daydream, 2. EVOL, 3. Sister and BMR (tie!) 4. Confusion/Idols 5. Goo and s/t debut EP (tie) 6. and then everything else, w/ Dirty, Nurse, R Ripped, and Spinhead among the best of those.... EJSTN&No Star has a few really killer tracks, too.

@@martinbramah2224 That's a generalized statement though in my opinion since these two albums represent two different bands almost. The sound on Bad Moon is nothing like the sound on DDN. This is creative, experimental indi and that one is basically punk alternative. All you're really saying is there's more fans of that type of music than this type of music. Which is fair to say.

@@martinbramah2224 Daydream Nation is the closest to mainstream of all their albums. So it's farthest away from the very essence of Sonic Youth. The fact that you consider it their best only shows you should really go listen to something else.

Back in 1992, wintertime in Western Pennsylvania. Dean, Tom and I are sitting in the cab of my pickup truck, parked in front of a covered bridge, smoking a joint. Dean pulls this cassette out of his coat and pops it in the tape deck. That was a very intense buzz.

Stuart Riley Lol yeah it is. What a way to end an album. There's just nothing like it. And Bad Moon Rising is a No Wave symphony with Noise Rock incorporated into it. Daydream Nation is really like a daydream when you listen to it. Providence is one of the dreamiest tracks I've ever heard as well as Secret Girl from EVOL. That little piano part alone makes that whole album that much better. Washing Machine, This, Daydream Nation, EVOL, and Dirty are my top 5 favorite Sonic Youth records.

Picked this album up on vinyl from my local record store in Wellington NZ recently. In the past I had mixed thoughts on it but listening to it on vinyl made my appreciation for it go through the roof. Amazingly haunting and gothic vibe all the way through, and the way the tracks all flow into each other seamlessly is gorgeous. I put the record on while doing the vacuuming and feel like I'm in a movie. Shame that "Flower" and "Halloween" couldn't make it onto the vinyl cuz those tracks are also amazing.

@@waz3128 yeah you’re talking about his band grey named after the art book. I know Vincent Gallo was in that band but there isn’t anything recorded by them to know what they sounded like. Maybe something like the SYR stuff Sonic Youth did. I did find out from Bob Bert that during the early days of SY they did see Basquiat in passing (on the street) but he didn’t see them in concert or anything that I’m aware of.

I believe that Im Insane might be the single best song ever recorded. It perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being dragged down into insanity and the finishing "inside my head my dogs a bear she was significant - im insane" line is just genius. The way the guitars teeter across eachother while that eerie swishing echos in the back can never be replicated.

Around 2004, when I was listening to "Sonic Nurse", I was a classical music college student. I was tired of the bitter world of classical music, so one day I exclaimed to the composer's professor, "I can't take your lecture!" One day, during the lecture of Professor, I blasted "Kill Your Idols" with a huge speaker in the protest hall. I got out of college, giving a fuck sign to my professor. Even now, I work as a classical composer and punk rocker. I'm usually quiet, but You can't touch it if I'm sharp!

I like it. But somehow I forget about it. It's better than Goodbye 20th C, for sure! Probably better than The Eternal.... It has that really long track the title of which I forget....

* never-grow-up and tune your guitars to: breaking glass, windshield-wipers, birds, growling scary things in-the-night, air-conditioners with unbalanced wheels inside, balloons, thunder, screaming alarms, whispering alarms, etc...then just bang on them carefully with echo-plexes . pretty hard to harness.

The CD version of this album (the one here posted - thank you very much BTW) has an annoying constant fast tremolo that doesn't exist in the vinyl version.

I hope so! I owe a great deal to Sonic Youth. If it weren't for them, I think I would be worshiping morons like Katy Perry, Nickleback and One Direction. They opened my eyes to a new world of music and I'm a very grateful to them..for suuuure!
