Back in 89 I caught Thurston Moore rummaging through my barn. He's like 8 feet tall and none of our traps stopped him. I don't know what he took but whatever it is, he can keep it. Sonic Youth rules!

When I saw 1991 The Year Punk Broke for the first time,,, I was SO entranced, transfixed and bloody enamored by how otherworldly Sonic Youth was!! I have been a fan ever since ! There is a pain in my soul to have to accept that they are no more. I feel the same way about Nirvana! Such a short but miraculous time for art, thought and music!! My biggest and most sincere hope is that there are still people out there who feel as I do and who are creating music that is way different than all of this mass produced , auto tuned crap that people are -told- to like by TV, Facebook , twitter etc. if you🫵 are a person who feels the way I do ( young or older) DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! Grab up an instrument ( not a computer) and get rockin! Music is the cure for a troubled soul in troubling times! When I didn’t have any friends when I was young, I felt like I did because of these bands and how different they were because that’s who I was,, different!❤

Oh my..this brings back memories of the first I heard this on a walkman cassette tape I bought and I was in Jacksonville laying down in the back of my parents stationwagon....in the back compartment staring out the back glass looking at the moon and riding into the night with my Dad at the wheel and my Mom shotgun. And my Mom was like "I can hear that noise coming from your headphones, turn it down!" So I didn't. wow. 1985? It was 85 or 86. Such a sweet memory.

Definitely! His drumming on their first works--up to and including Daydream Nation--is phenomenally creative; the part stucturing is ingenious. He shows that drumming does not have to be relegated to a mindless backbeat for mindless music.

@djdarkmonkey well i moved from LA in 2003 however one thing has remained consistent for all of time. Musicians follow the scene. In 1991 everyone wanted to be a part of the seattle scene... before that it was the LA and the whiskey GNR, and before that it was Boston with the pixies etc... Like it or not thats how it is. Its a collaboration and mood that drives creative spirit and to be a part of it is special even if your just watching it as a fan. KZbin is a good venue now. search

by "the year punk broke" they meant when the year punk broke into the mainstream. no punk album before 1990 or 1991 had gotten into the billboard Hot 100 or any other chart system before that. also, a lot of critics wouldn't review any sort of punk record released after 1977.
