It sounded beautiful. I bought the RG9 and the stock pickups and 5 way toggle made it really shine. I also had the RGA9 with EMG 909s installed. I loved the Meshuggah style bridge it came with. It's great for tuning stability. Anyway, I've rambled on too long. I think I'd go with the Ibanez m80m OR Schecter 9 string. Great video! Take care, Sam.

Great video. Have you tried the "official" 24v mod for your 808's and 909's? Removes a bit of that over-compressed sound EMG is plagued by, and increases pick attack and overall feel. Those 909's sounded pretty dope in that 9 of yours already though! I put one in my 30" Agile 9 and was really surprised... it had the clarity of a Fishman, but the sound of an EMG. Instantly bought a few more for all my 808's and 909's.

At the riff at 8:10 you can clearly hear that signature Deftones guitar sound at the higher harmonics, at the 8:40 riff you can also hear the Meshuggah sound at the dampened pickings. I like the fact that these are all the same rig, and only differing in the guitars, but they sound so different as they just sit in their own way in the mix and making it sound a bit more like the actual band where they come from
@MineMech237 сағат бұрын
I found myself liking the Ibanez 9 on a couple of those riffs, and then later not liking it at all. I can't decide what I think about it. I think I need to play one to know for myself by feel. The m80m has soul. So does the 9-string platinum

Comparisons of extended-scale guitars need to factor in lead playing. I know you said you’re not a lead player, but that’s precisely the area in which extended-range guitars become a problem - not just with regards to playability (due to the increased string tension making bends harder), but also with regards to sound: High notes on high strings, when they are under higher tension due to the extended scale length, sound a lot shriekier than on a 6-string or other guitar with a standard scale length. I learned this the hard way with my Schecter Hellraiser C-8 FR. It’s one of the reasons why multiscale guitars were invented. Then again, those can’t have Floyd Roses - at least, I’ve never seen one on a multiscale guitar.

Ltd all the way . But that's just a thing with me I always prefer shorter sound. 24.75 for drop d or c 25m5 for drop b or a etc. I don't really get why people like sound of a baritone (for the tuning if you know what I mean)
@DJENTISNTNOTAGENRE2 жыл бұрын
These sort of things always come down to personal preference at the end of the day. There's absolutely nothing wrong or incorrect about liking the generally darker and less defined(?) sound of low tunings on shorter scale lengths. Also, depending on what kind of music you're playing, that kind of tone would even be preferable. I'm more into the baritone sound myself, but I've heard plenty of great bands/songs that use shorter lengths for low tunings and they wouldn't sound the same to me with a baritone.

So why do people hate those Gibraltar II bridges?
@Skeletor47532 жыл бұрын
When it comes to extended range something that doesn't get nearly enough attention is bridge pickup placement. In fact I think it is one of the most important things to look for as the pickup can always be changed the route location cannot. The closer it is to the bridge the tighter that sound is. If you want an 8 or 9 string and you see the bridge pickup is a suspect distance from the bridge like that ibanez 9 string steer clear. If anyone is looking for an 8 string guitar recommendation I would say check out the ignition series from Jericho guitars. My fusion ignition 8 cost me 750 at the time and it sounds miles better than any other 8 I've owned/ played. I've had 4 Ibanez 8 strings between the prestige and premium lines and they don't come close.
@SonicDriveStudio2 жыл бұрын
True, that also plays a part!

I bought an Ignition 8. I got a dud. Nut was filed way too low on the D & G strings. The neck pocket also wasn't routed flush (there was a lip on the front that angled the neck forward). Yeah, i fixed it, but damn. Can't say I'd ever buy a Jericho again.
