I'm surprised by how much people in the comments actually think this is Genocide City's theme. This was the 2-player theme for Casino Night as the title suggests. A fan hack of Sonic 2 used this theme for their version of Genocide City along with the other 2P themes for the other stages.
@ClassicSonicFan20128 жыл бұрын
Genocide city was where this theme was first used in the early stages of Sonic 2

This theme was never used for Genocide City because Genocide City wasn't even made, they only made a concept art and they had an idea for the stage name, and even in a prototype it's name appears but the stage was never designed in the game. They scrapped this stage before it was started.

I got a Genesis plug-and-play console for my 7th birthday (and did manage to dig it out about a year ago, albeit with the batteries having leaked virtually their entire contents), and of course the headlining game in that little system was Sonic 2. My knowledge is fuzzy on whether I was a Sonic fan before this, or if this game is what initially made me one, but in any case, I fuckin loved the game, even if I only ever beat Chemical Plant Zone Act 2 once or twice. Despite the console having only a single, hardwired controller, I checked out 2-player mode anyway, and eventually treated it as like a bootleg level select, and it was through this where I discovered Casino Night Zone, which rapidly became my favourite stage in the game, thanks to the fun pinball and slot machine gimmicks, and this incredible track. I loved this particular track so much that when I actually finally got to Casino Night Zone in 1-player, I was really disappointed by how much slower-paced the 1-player music was. Anyhow, it's current year, and I recently got an original Model 1 Genesis and Sonic 2. Thanks to the epic gamer skills I've honed over the 12 years since I last played, I was able to make it to Casino Night Zone in 1-player easily, and I still really enjoyed it - up until the boss, who I found annoyingly hard to hit consistently. Despite that, Casino Night Zone is still probably my favourite Sonic 2 stage; the music is absolutely great, the stage gimmicks are still super fun to me today, and there's all that glorious nostalgia from what was basically my first ever game console.

Note for all of you who think this is Genocide City zone: Genocide City was never supposed to be a city at all (kinda). It was originally going to be a one-act zone (Similar to Wing Fortress), being a mechanical level. It was scrapped in favor of Metropolis act 3. At some point in time, SEGA realized how genocide wouldn't be a very good word to be used in a childrens game, so if it was added, it would've been called Cyber City.

I have such a love hate relationship with the vs stage themes. On the one hand, they're utterly amazing and surpass the normal versions in every way. On the other hand, why on earth did sega wanna punish gamers so hard for either being friendly or just playing alone? Especially when memory capacity in cartridges was such a big deal at the time, why go out of your way to include worse versions of songs and then push them into the more common way to play?
