I started Sonic Lobotomy twenty years ago with my buddy Joe Macon. Our mission was to give bands a chance to play their music in the controlled studio environment, with top quality cameras, lights, and sound. We also wanted to get bands to talk about themselves, their influences, and ambitions. We wanted to give exposure to all the great talent in Boston and beyond. Since then, Joe Macon has left us, but his spirit lives on with every episode of the show,
Joe would be happy to see that I finally got the courage up to play Sonic Lobotomy with my own band. I wish he could have been around for this episode. I miss Joe.
My primary band since 2004 has and will be The Welch Boys. TJ Welch and The Wasted is a side project I put together as an alternate creative outlet. This is an band that could play stuff I had written that was a little less punk, and a little more rock and roll. Also, in this incarnation,.. I am enjoying having a chance to be a lead singer and play lead guitar.
TJ Welch and The Wasted started about 5 years ago. I recruited drummer Eric Bowman, and we worked together in my cellar studio on this material,.. recording demo songs. Once we had enough for a set list,.. we decided the time was right to get a bass player. At that point, we convinced veteran multi instrumentalist Mike Lucantonio to play bass. The last element was rhythm guitar. I found that band member close to home. I convinced my son Owen to pick up his dad's Les Paul and play.
At this moment, The Welch Boys are taking a break, allowing me to spend time on this project. As of this posting,..TJ Welch and The Wasted have played a few shows , gone into Mad Oak studios in Boston to record the finished product,.. and done this episode of Sonic Lobotomy. We look forward to writing new material,... playing out more, doing more video,.. and having fun together. Thanks for watching the band !
