Cool T-shirt~ Pro tip, set input gain to about -18 on your DAW. You can always bump it up later after eq, compression and FX.

Absolutely, i gain stage at -18 coming into each channel and it helps tremendously. I conceptualise it as the ideal volume to come out of the speakers, after that you can turn it up or down on the fader to set the level for the mix itself.

I've got drawers overflowing with these kinds of shirts. I should probably start auctioning them off just to make room. And yes! Good to have a target level where your analog gear sounds good and operates well, that leaves you headroom. -18 dBFS works very well for that for sure.

Another sideroad to get salaried is bringing in clients. Doesn't have to be famous artists/bands/producer/etc, just one or two good bands with a decent budget a year and you're one mile ahead of fellow engineers.

Yep I was told mix like your waking thru a store. And at 30-75% I can tell when my beat is at -12(my target

Thanks for this info. Could you please explain how to mesure these 60-70 dB for monitoring? Is with k-20 reference?

You’d use an SPL meter to figure out how loud you are monitoring. You may even be able to download one for your phone. Hope that helps!
