#soniclab #soma #terra
We were invited to visit Soma Sound Machines at their Warsaw factory and while we were there were shown the pre production model of the Terra - the unique and very sensitive instrument . Terra features twelve extremely sensitive nodes (cant think of what else to call them!) for playing pitches, plus five for modifying the timbre, there are also 7 modifier knobs which globally effect the sound with two being dependent on the algorithm used.
Despite the wooden case, Terra is a digital sound source and has multiple models which are played rather like instruments, each model has 64 variations. As usual, its a rather off the wall concept, but thats what makes Soma the way it is. In practice, its incredibly sensitive and flexible - reminds us of the Eagan Matrix instruments found in the Haken Continuum or the Osmose.
The Terra will be in production very soon and making its way into the stores.

Its Awesome that Vladimir made it with materials as natural organic as Oak wood.The sound frequencies Bends, Goes with the Grain of real Timber Wood.Versus synthetic plasticities that leaves the listener with less than is expected.Its full Soma within variations that pushes,then pulls it's own nuances, or sensitive, yet synthesis vibrations.Through Real instrumental tonal scales,that full on Resonates within alot more soulful,than not usually bargained for.

What if he and other electronic instrument builders would have a video output from the instrument to connect to a variety of monitors to see the what the parameters and knobs are doing? Further in the future the parameters could represent commands to a visual software so the audience would see visuals changing with what the musician is doing.

@@dereknolin5986 Well said, totally agree, there are loads of different ways to add expression alongside a midi controller, the touché to name just one. @bizarrefruit
@bizarrefruit 10 ай бұрын
@@silverblue73 No, with all due respect, amplification and pickups revolutionised music, multi-track recording revolutionised music. If I desperately wanted something like this, I could make it from basic components and bind them via midi, assuming I didn't already have 100 different ways to control that are better suited. Sliders, pedals, pads, wheels, knobs, buttons, slide/tilt axis and keys with aftertouch, to name just a few. If you like it then buy it, workflow is key and we are all different, but I will not for a second accept or pretend that this is a revolutionary product, because it isn't. If in 20 years, every musician is using one, get back to me and I'll apologise.
