Probably best known for his 20 year plus of synthesizer reviews for Sound On Sound magazine, Paul is a prolific writer (novels) and musical artist. He has recently reorganized his studio setup to be a standing approach as well as preferring to leave the computer out of the loop. You can find his music on Bandcamp (link below)

Cheers Gaz! I did eventually think of a really good answer to q1 (and as far as q3 goes, I've put a deposit on an Osmose ;) )

WilyEPeyote Osmose is a contender for the best thing ever!

When I heard the first question, I thought the answer would be Cirklon given how active Paul is in the Sequentix forum. Cool idea for a video.

I deliberately resisted going on about Cirklon too much but what I did mean to say (but forgot) was this: Cirklon puts all the cool step sequencer/aux event type operation right next to real-time recording, jamming and looping. It's the freedom to play but also to compose and arrange that has given me a new lease of life in my hardware-based studio. Instead of saying that I rambled on about how rare it is for anyone to listen to my brilliant ideas. Well, these days I can't even get companies to fix obvious bugs (Korg, I'm thinking of you!)>

@@WilyEPeyoteI think the Cirklon community is grateful to you (and other contributors) for providing the feedback which facilitated it maturing into what it is today. I have mine five or six years and still feel I've only uncovered half of what it is capable of. That said, even without using some of the deeper features, it still feels like an inspiring instrument.

I somehow knew the HydraSynth would get mentioned. I hope the Hydra launches Roland and other manufactures of digital synths off their butts and get started building new synths instead of the same old vintage recreations. They now have a perfect example of deep synth navigation interface (hydrasynth)....make it better....stop giving us deep dive menus!

Went to sixth form with Paul didnt know him very well but was very jealous one day, as a huge tangerine dream fan, when he was using, i guess a minimoog, in the main hall of Newman College and im pretty sure he was doing Ricochet by TD. We were friends with Cobby. Used to see Paul when he worked at BT? Anyway take it easy. Colin

Hey Colin, I didn't know myself well then either ;) I wish I'd had a Minimoog in those days but actually it was a Yamaha CS10. Got a Mini now though.

@@WilyEPeyote Hey cool nice to hear from you. Used have classes with Cobby and knew he was a friend of yours. Used to go round to his house with a kaftan on and his folks would give me funny looks, we both loved and i still love all things synth. Take care. Colin

@@mixolydian2010 I still see Pete now and again but he's way too respectable these days to allow kaftans (or indeed any kind of sunbed action). We're both still listening to Tangerine Dream!
