This is another example of why Sonnax is "The Best in the Business". I'm 70 years old and have used Sonnax parts through out my entire building career

I don't do alot of racing trannys anymore. But I use Sonnax stuff everyday. Whether it is tools. Or parts. is costly. But it is also the best stuff out there. Great product!

I kinda remember John Kilgore pioneering this or something like it about 20 years ago. Everybody wants lite weight engine parts but they never think about whats being spun in the trans.

Hi Stuart, thanks for bringing this up! The general concept of splitting functions of the direct drum, moving some functions to the input side, and as a result, reducing the number of components that counter-rotate is similar to the Kilgore Superlight. In all other ways the Sonnax module is dramatically different - from massive clutch capacity and better internal support of components to 100% new content (no used core pieces). Feel free to visit this page to learn more: www.sonnax.com/th400#smart-tech. Thanks again, and have a great day!

We used to be able to buy directly from Sonnax here in New Zealand (torque converter & transmission parts) but a trans parts supplier put a stop to that (Sonnax sold out to them) now when new parts become available from Sonnax if our single supplier in N.Z doesn't stock it we're screwed! They can now virtually fix the price for Sonnax parts in this country? When multiple businesses could stock parts it made the price competitive for us!

Sonnax should fix this!

So, if I have a TH400 with both aluminum forward *AND* direct drums, how much lighter, and more efficient is the new Sonnax part? Is there an input shaft I can buy to use with the OE style pump and torque converter? Is Sonnax considering making other parts? Straight cut planetary gears, and an aluminum reaction carrier would be extremely valuable.

a lot of components from the 4l80e are interchangeable with the th400 is this smart-tech drum module usable in the 4l80e or is this one of the few that arent interchangeable?
@sonnax2 жыл бұрын
Great question! No, due to its unique design, the Sonnax Smart-Tech drum module is only for applications that do not run a front band. The 4L80-E has the overdrive ring gear incorporated into the forward drum and typically still utilizes a front band. Hope that helps, thanks for asking!
