Here in Texas we had a bad drought from 2011-2015. The state climatologist predicted it would take six years of above average rains to break the drought. Then May, 2015 came along and three weeks later the state was basically drought free. Look at California and Colorado this year; just took one really wet winter and both states are nearly drought free. So, hang there and we've got our fingers crossed for all of you! PS - In fact it was so wet, we couldn't get into some of our fields to cut hay!

Hopefully you will receive some rain. Nice job Cole and Brian and Uncle Jeff for handling and sorting and giving treatments to the cows. You all did great and in a short amount of time. My compliments to you all. Cole, I agree with your plan to pasture some of the cows and sell a small handful due to the drought and short on pasture land. Hopefully it will work out for you. Brian thanks for the song of the day. Don’t honestly know that one but will listen to it and see what I think. Thanks Brian. About it for now. Thanks for the good video. Two things Sonne boys, wear your seat belts, and I bought you guys those dusting brushes for your IH tractor and if you didn't know they also work really well for your pick-ups, especially grandpa's and the new truck too. You're killing me with this easy stuff. One of the best uses for these California dusters, is cleaning the gauge cluster without scratching. I've been using them on my 2006 Chevy HD2500 since the day when I bought it brand new from a dealership in Washington just after my deployment to the operation enduring freedom. Use the dusters and keep thing pretty, for goodness sakes

Pretty interesting how far in advance you have to plan for herd size, pasture conditions, hay availability, hay costs, beef prices, and a thousand other considerations!! Too much thinking with too many consequences for me. I'd prefer farming when it was total local and all between folks in the same area. There are a LOT of factors (out of your control) that you have to factor in to hopefully make a profit on the year. AND praying the weather comes through in a timely manner also. And I am praying it does for you. Thanks for showing us the operation.

When your making fence mount a birdhouse on all the wood posts in your fence line especially for birds that eat flies that bother your cattle. Ever since the invention of the chainsaw everyone cuts down dead trees with cavities that birds use for nesting. Mother Nature might not rain on you, but Mother Nature will rain to provide rain to make food for the young birds.

I don’t know how any farmer or cattle-raiser can plan ahead this year. The weather patterns in a lot of areas are far from normal. It’s such a crapshoot any year, but this year seems particularly bad. Let’s hope your decisions are the right ones. We’ll all say a prayer for getting the right amount of moisture at the right time for all farmers.

Hard to make the decision to sell but better to sell early and live to fight another day. Waiting then selling is the worst.. no grass and crappy prices. We know how that is after last couple years in Texas. Good job guys
@SbrGrendel65 Жыл бұрын
It’s a tough situation, with the amount of rain you’ve gotten to this point. You can only put out what the pasture can handle. 🤞🏽 you guys will eventually get rain, but it’s best to get the most you can for those you can’t feed. So when it’s time to replace you’ll have more bang for the buck on your sold cattle, yo offset price of the replacement cattle.
