Cole and Brian, a very good video. Your story of getting your shots put me amind of my own experiences in the 1950s. I hope you do not mind me reminiscing. We really never went to town from our farm in Floyd County (NW) Georgia, except one day of the week, usually Friday, and of course on Sunday to attend the South Broad Methodist Church, that my great, grandfather, Judge Henry Johnson donated the land for after the Civil War. We lived 7 miles from Broad Street ( Rome, Ga), but gas was 25.9 cents a gallon. It took exactly 1 gallon of gas to get to town and back. My Mother had it calculated precisely, so you didn't waste trips. My little brother and I always rode the bus. When Mother picked us up from school during the week in our 1949 Studebaker that my Father paid cash for with the money he sent home during his service with the army in the South Pacific during WWII, my brother and I were immediately suspicious as soon as we got inside the car. Mother always had a "reason" for picking us up that sort of made sense, kind-of, and we would lay low in the back seat until we saw the "lay of the land." We knew there was only one reason that my Mother would make the turn off Broad Street onto West Second Ave - one reason and one reason only - to go to the Floyd County Public Health Department for shots - the dreaded shots - and my brother and I would hold our breathes until we made that turn then we would burst into tears and lamentations because we know what was at hand - the dreaded shots. We were doomed! But afterward, Mother would treat us to chocolate sodas at Enloe's Drugstore soda fountain, so that was some consolation. I am sorry for going on, but your experience just seemed to raise a common bond that perhaps all children can identify with at any age of life. I apologize for such a long comment.

@@briansonne814 Sir, it's on my heart to let you know the hand is back, and better than before. Can't explain the quick healing or even better use. Been crushed at least a good 5 times in life already and had nerve issues prior to the last. Now no issues...?? Honestly boggled a bit still about that. But y'all will always have them prayers back to you and the family, every morning I can still wake to another day! You raised him right, and as a man of of his own, he does right! I'm proud of Colesoooone! I think we all know that's a rarity nowadays. Ain't no fire here, so don't expect this to be smoke up the cows back. 🙌🏻 Stay Sunny Sonne's!

So soothing and satisfying watching you cutting, raking and bailing hay, I go to my happy 😊 place watching this! Hopefully the rain 🌧 will make the pasture grow again fast so you can do it all over again. Love 💕 the modern animal husbandry explanation to handling cattle, so more humane. I love 💕 cattle 🐮 but I also love 💕 to eat em.

I am a new subscriber as of about a week ago. I am so glad I found your channel as I love watching your daily life on the farm. I too grew up on a farm although it was much much smaller than yours. What I love the most about your videos is the relationship that you have with your dad. You and your dad remind me of the relationship my father and I had before he passed 9 years ago. I am retired now and the wife and I travel looking at the beautiful country. I am a tractor mechanic by trade and owned my own shop for 38 years. Enough about me. Love your vids... tell your dad that he raised a fine son :) GOD bless...

Hey man, you dont have to apologize or make excuses for using the dart gun. We use one all the time to bring neighbor, Ned, home from the Elks bar on Saturday nights. Normally, we hide behind the Exalted Rulers podium and use the pool table as a benchrest for the gun. Of course, we have to wait till he's eaten a bunch of peanuts so that when he falls off the barstool, he lands in the peanut shells which cushions his fall. One thing, and I dont want to be critical, but offering Busch Beer to Elly is not good. I mean, dogs will eat cow poo and lick their own butts, but even they wont drink Busch.

@Paperwing I truly appreciate your kind words. Believe it or not, I actually get most of my stories from taking a few liberties in describing actual friends of mine. Let's face it... everybody has a " Ned". And, a lot of my other stories come from experiences that I've been blessed to share with fellow farmers in our area. Our profession has been long misunderstood by folks that are not involved in farming and I personally am grateful for people like the Sonne's that invite us into their lives so we can see the good and bad of a job that I thank God for every day that I do. It's not glamorous and it causes a lot of sleepless nights, but I see everyday the limitless caring for their neighbors that farmers consider an everyday part of their lives. I saw it myself when I was a teenager and my father was severely injured in a farm accident during harvest and I was worried all the way home from the hospital how I was going to handle harvest on my own. What I found when i got home was 4 combines, 9 semis, and enough tractors and grain carts to put most dealerships to shame. And when the fields were done, everyone there refused to take any money for all the help. That's the reason that these channels are necessary. They show that, no matter how messed up we feel this country is, all you have to do is talk to a farmer and realize we are going to be ok. Thanks for letting me say that. God bless.

Holy... I just checked out the cost of a used John Deere 956 MOCO.. $45,000... Back when I farmed in the 80's my used Vermeer Haybine cost me $2500. The new fangled Discbine machines were just coming into vogue back then. I loved haying. I had a used JD 336 square baler and a used JD 510 round baler. Never had a lick of trouble with the Haybine or the square baler. I had a roller bearing on the round baler pack in but thankfully the fire damage was minimal. I put up a lot of hay and green feed with that equipment. I quit farming in 1996. In south-western Alberta we have a reasonably dry climate with not a lot of humidity so hay would be ready to bale three days from cutting. I had a wheel rake but seldom had to use it. I enjoy your channel. Thanks for the clean entertainment.

Back when I was a kid, big round balers were just coming out. I remember the debates among farmers as to the value -- leaving big bales out in the weather as opposed to stacking small square (rectangular, actually) in the barn -- breaking open a big bale and perhaps having wastage or using small bales and feeding "just enough" -- etc. All I know is, the $1.50 an hour I got as a fourteen-year-old kid for stacking hay in a 120 degree (F) barn was pretty good money. (Yes, I'm old.) Miss those days.

I was thinking you guys spend a good bit of time checking how things are behind you while in the tractor. Why not put the seat on some sort of swivel that can be locked in place and then unlocked when you need to see back there. Seems it would be lots more comfortable for your neck, shoulders and back. newest feature on the 2022 John Deere tractors. Patent pending! 🤪

Also find quite a few Sonnes buried in the cemetery so appears roots and branches of the family are well established there.

I'd like to take credit for the great gift of a blue slappy but when I went to the store they were out. Let's all be concerned for all the 2 pump chumps out there also.

1) what type of preservatives are used on the bales? What is it supposed to do? 2) We’re in LA, about 45 miles from the Gulf of Mexico- so I know exactly what you mean about humidity!! 3) Never seen Dad cut in squares instead of rows

Awesome video. I love hay baling. Back in the 60's and 70' s I used to help my Uncle bale hay. Loved every minute of it.

@@briansonne814 whatttttttt!!!! lol soooo my slappy did not make it! - must of been the dodgy free shipping deal the door to door salesman offered - He said I needed to subscribe and sign up for notifications and all packaging and shipping was free. Hmmmmmmmmmm A second of silence for poor lost NZ slappy. If you ever visit down-under to NZ I will present you with a replacement slappy! Did I mention we are Covid free lol
