This is probably the best interview of Carpenter out there.

John Carpenter is a great director and a great thinker. His interviews are delight because he seems very sincere and patient with interviewers who sometimes know less about movie history than he does. I go back and re-watch his films regularly and have a mini Carpenter festival. Thanks for sharing!

He is one of most talented directors living in the world today, but Hollywood is so naive by not backing him for making new projects.

The more I listen to him, the more I love the man behind the director. He's just spot on on every subject he talks, a really interesting man to study! Thank you very much for the upload :)

"If I didn't direct, I don't know what I'd do, I'd probably sit around and...." play video games with my son!... Fair enough John. but come on, give us some more!

I just saw Big Trouble in Little China on the big screen for the first time I nearly 30 years at a John Carpenter retrospective in Brooklyn. So great. They're showing all his films, even the lesser ones like Ghosts of Mars and Village of the Damned. It's inspiring me to reassess my opinion of some of his "failures." Memoirs of an Invisible Man is by no means one of his best, but it's a funny, solid thriller. Very underrated.

Damn, I must've missed that one. I lived in Brooklyn at the time and I must've seen at least 4 or 5 Carpenter classics at the theaters, more than once each.

Hollywood is wasting their chance to work with this crazy-insane-talented director. But just make sure you give him an insufficient budget. Then his genius works the best.
@Ricman789 жыл бұрын
I agree. I've always said that people like john Carpenter and Brian DePalma work best in the independent and low budget range than with large studio budgets!

Thanks for uploading. John carpenter is my fav film-maker and one that does not get the credit he deserves. He is mega talented and I love hearing him talk about his movies and life etc.

Thanks for this. I really miss John Carpenter the director. Got to see him perform his film scores live, which was amazing I must say! I wish him luck with the new Halloween film that he is executive producing. I hope it does wel,l and lights a fire under his ass to direct one more classic?! He's one of the LAST of my childhood movie hero's that is still alive.

26:27 When asked with whom would he like to work in the future he says a 70-year old cameraman who shot Rosemary’s Baby and Bullitt. John Carpenter is so cool.

Come on JC, just give us ONE more film. Take a literary source or older film and do something interesting with it, use practical effects, get quality character actors on board and give us something special because I know you can do it.

Thanks so much for uploading this! Excellent, excellent interview. John Carpenter is my favourite film-maker as well, so I'm there with the rest of the commenters here and it's nice to be in good company. After having watched this, I cannot but think how brutal, how ruthless Hollywood is and how stupud is the audience... John did his best to be an Author within the Hollywod framework, and no, the system didn't like it, as well as the movie-goers. His best movies movies flopped at the box office, with Halloween and Escape from New York somehow evading that... But oh, they'll last alright, they'll outlive all of us.

The only thing I disagree with it that adults don't want to see horror films. My whole life is horror films. But, I guess for the average person this may be true. Not for the true horror fans out there. I'll be a horror gal until I die

if it wasnt for him you wouldnt have the thing alien bladerunner terminator avatar etc etc, all the best scifi stems from john, he gave cameron his start as a background artist on escape, and all his close screenwriter buddies are responsible for the likes of alien and beyond giving ridley a good start as well. That goes without mentioning a games series like metal gear solid as well and all its inspired john carpenter = king of cool
