@@ginadigildo6591 I think it's more so he knows the business, the people in it and he's facing 25 to life. In his mind he had no future. At this point Lily hadn't gone to Rivera just yet.. but he is about to be arrested on money laundering charges. When she saw Sonny and Brenda together she knew it was over for her. Garcia was her "school bell", and when he showed up to arrest him is when she played her card. She knew the charges he faced and the time he'd have to do in prison if convicted. After the the bail hearing is when she went to her dad asking to bail him out in exchange for his hand in marriage. That was the only way she knew Sonny would stay with her.

Whew Lawd! I think my phone blew up watching this scene. And for the naysayers, yes they did lust for each other, but they had real love too. That’s what makes their romance so special. They were passionate, romantic, loving, faithful to each other, argued with intensity, and could be silly together. That’s why many are still rooting for a happy ending 30 years later. This is hands down the best couple in the history of soaps. I just wish the GH writers hadn’t kept them apart for so long. I still feel cheated as a viewer.

I like that even to this day Brenda is referred to as Sonny's drug and obsession. She is his soulmate through and through.. Nah he loved her more than anything. HIs life really wasn't good for her. She got shot up in the shower. She deserved better but she was so in love with him she couldn't let him go. @KellyAnn Dean I see your point. In his arrogance, he thought he could have it all, Brenda and his underworld ties. Over time, I think he really did come to realize how Brenda deserved better and he tried to step away. Remember when she came to him offering to be his mistress. He told her she was better than that and she deserved better. I think he loved her, but he definitely had a deep attraction for her which I personally believe applied to the actual people in real life because this was just a little too real.
