I've always enjoyed Sonny James and wondered about the guitar on so many of his records. This is the first time I've been sure he was doing it. Quite an unusual style. I remember the expression six-string harmony from years ago, and I associated it with the Carters, but perhaps Mr. James's playing qualifies too.
