So impressed with y’all’s reviews. Always honest and I really appreciate that. I had a bad experience on a Pearl reference pure kit 2 years ago, and I thought it was just me. After watching y’all’s review on the masters maple/gum, I think I’m not alone. Keep it up 👍🏻

Just curious. What was the bad experience? I have an sq2 now but had a reference (not pure) for many years and loved it for heavy music. I always wondered about the pures but have never played one.

@@johnfartson4080 I bought it as my first pro level kit. Watched all the videos from Pearl about the kit and how they make sure the bearing edges are perfectly flat, etc. bearing edges were far from flat, and it was really bad. The floor toms and kick drum sounded terrible with those fully rounded edges. You get a very muddy attack, and the kick drum sounded like a beach ball. One of the tension rods for the 13 inch rack Tom was extremely bent/warped. When the snare drum shipped and I opened the box, it had screws rolling around on the inside of the drum. Every time I played the snare the tension rods would come loose. Sorry if that was hard to read, it was a very long story/process. I still have pictures of the bearing edges and how off they were.

@@dannycutchin7684 Wow that’s awful to hear. I’m sorry you had that experience with Pearl drums. My kit was a reference (not pure) and I had it since the series was first released, kept it for about 14 years. It was my first pro kit, I had 3 other low and mid range kits before it. It was perfect in every detail. Almost wish I still had it specifically for a rock/metal playing. It had a huge sound with a thunderous floor and kick. Maybe the rounded edges work better on the thicker shell reference models idk. A quality bearing edge is extremely important so that was certainly a factor in your negative experience. It’s interesting that yours had such major and numerous defects. I guess even some of the best companies can make a crap kit here and there. Sonor and Pearl are my main brands when it comes to high end drums. Sorry about the long reply. I hope you’ve found something that suits you better.

these drums sound really great, very resonant and pure. you also can expect top quality, of course. I'm just not convinced by the color options Sonor has to offer, this particular finish for example is nice at a glance, but in a few seconds into it, it starts to look rather.. artificially cheap? It does not imo correspond to the sound and class of the kit. maybe it looks better in near field or in person, though. thanks for the vid

Could a distanced room mic also be a listening option too please! Come to think of it, an overhead without compression might be an addition also! Thanks for showing the Sonor snare removal initiative. Hope it doesn't pop off during a gig though! It's great to have your insights so keep up the ever expanding gear reviews to come. :-)

Get that rug out of the bass drum and it will sound 100% better. I have one these kits. You don't need ANY muffling on any of the drums. They sound better than this when tuned lower. That finish is a no go for me. My kit is Chocolate Burl. Best kit I've ever owned.

I love the Finish !But how about showing some Versatility here!? different tunings would be nice. For example how to dial in on the way too long sustain on that Floortom . some sustain is a good thing to have, but this tom just doesn't stop talking;-) also play the bas drum without pillow and show how warm and punchy it can sound with different tuning. thanks guys

Pillows belong on a bed, not in a bass drum. Sustain on these was great, not absurdly long.

You did not mention what shell wood was used. You did say at the end something about maple drum market, so I'm assuming they are maple drums. You also didn't say what the bearing edges are.

They sound amazing wow I can respect the finish for being unique but ugh it just got worse as the time went on but it’s not that bad it’s unique like an ugly pet that just looks cute because of how ugly it is kind of thing but that sound is next to perfect. I owned an s classix birch kit and they were pretty damn sweet but not what my ears wanted unlike this kit. I think they are worth every penny because they truly try to make a superior drum and the craftsmanship is the utmost best and the years of experience of their craftsman and the best materials used is what your paying for. These are what you dream of one day owning kind of drums.

I'm liking Sonor less and less every day. I know they make high quality stuff and I won't deny it, but it's just not my cup of tea. Finishes are uglier and uglier, and they are way too overpriced. More than £3000 for a 3 pieces kit (and not even the top of the line SQ2)...? They're good, but not THAT good, imo... You can have better sounding drums for much less... and way more beatiful, by the way.... Edit: ...by the way, in case any one is interested, I've seen this exact kit (3 pieces) in Thomann for € 2968 (£ 2718), taxes included, and shipping also included, at least in the EU, I don't know other countries.

SQ2 is top of the line, that´s kind of right... But Prolite are build by the same people, same materials and same quality control. It´s not a budget drum! Change the badge and it´s an SQ2 because it´s build on the same line in the factory. If you don´t like the sound, you don´t like the sound. That´s ok.

@@stenduginski2306 for a £4300+ kit (including the 10" tom and the snare) they could perfectly give you better heads, don't they...? The crappy heads trick is something many brands do with their low and mid ranges to low the price a bit more, but in exchange, if you choose well you can have a decently sounding drum (once you change the heads, wich eventually you'll have to anyway) for an affordable price. But in this price range I don't think it's acceptable.

@@GeoffBosco yup and anytime somebody says something negative others jump on board even if it makes no sense. Lmao. hence the current people running the country in the US.
